No way. If all meat is contaminated then they'd be popping positives left and right on all sorts of different athletes. The specific argument is that is was from pork organs because that's what has been shown to have the substances in it from other lab tests (albeit not at levels that are believably achievable from a burrito)
and im sure this is in organ meat prior to preparation, not what youd be getting in your burrito

Over half a year, this is the best exculpatory evidence they can produce? We are talking about one of Nike's prized athletes in the run up to the Olympics. I would imagine they would have hired an army of investigators and would have produced affidavits of support from the guys working the truck that night, the owner of the truck, the distributor of the tainted meat, the farmer of the questionable pigs, etc. Then they would have some confirmatory tests that the meat from this source has high levels of nandrolone. If they even can produce one pig from the source with high steroid levels in the meat, bingo, she is going to get off. No, instead after 7 months we have almost nothing concrete to support her claim. Why would the people in the burrito food chain cooperate you might ask? You don't think Nike would make it worth their while? Did the BTC crew make public all of the documents submitted supporting her appeal? Right now, nobody knows for sure, but I am amazed at how lame her defense is if indeed she is innocent.
Schumacher is saying all things I've heard from so many coach/athlete that gets caught. They praise the anti doping system when their athlete tests positive. Use it as validation that the athlete is clean. And as soon as that athlete test negative they say the same anti doping system is critically flawed and their athlete is being unfairly accused. The anti doping agency are not perfect but they are trying to keep the sport clean and Schumacher is undermining all their efforts.

ma'am when an athlete tests positive it means they doped. when they rest negative it means they are in the clear.
Surely after Schumakers comments and attempt to defend Shelby Rojo should be pushing for his banning.
From a European perspective its difficulr to see the difference between Salazar and Jerry situations. Both have clearly aided athletes in cheating.
I think most in the sport in Europe (with head screwed on)i realise the top athletes worldwide are cheating, including their own athletes. When they ran those 5k times last year, it was pretty obvious they were up to something.
Now Jerry's athlete has been caught and they have spent months building a defence which is this weak. I mean never heard of nandrolene shouldnt have got past a cursory first draft with the Nike team.

Jacobs was BANNED. Gatlin was BANNED. Semenya was BANNED and DEHUMANIZED, especially by people on these boards, before being reinstated.

We can't put any weight on an athletes adamant, emotional denial. Every single doper that's ultimately admitted to it acted exactly that way. These emotional press conferences mean nothing.
We have to rely on reliable testing. In my review of the results, it's pretty obvious she doped. The "just 5 ng/dl" PR spin is working though. I've seen journalists unquestionably take Schumacher's word that this is a tiny amount. Where's the critical thinking among these journalists? The odds she could have blood levels this high from oral consumption are far, far less like than the "1 in 10" number Jerry gives(more PR spin).
This. To take athletes at their word is to be willfully naive. Because they have everything to lose, of course they're going to lie and plead persecution and unfairness and all the rest.
And the thing is, there is probably some level where they truly don't think they did anything wrong, so in their mind they aren't lying when they say they didn't cheat. Dopers don't just one day decide "Im gonna cheat." It's incremental steps, toeing the line, playing in that gray area with TUEs and testing windows and substances that aren't banned but are suspect, and then it's just another small step to go all the way into actual doping. I think on a level Houlihan genuinely believes she's not a cheater.
I also suspect that a certain level/kind of self-denial is involved here. another poster mentioned the possibility that she was taking a different PED and that said other PED was somehow, maybe accidentally, 'tainted' with the nandrolone she tested positive for. in that scenario, she would be genuinely shocked by the positive test, and on that basis might even persuade herself into thinking that she's actually "innocent" - self-denial tends to work that way.

Totally agree. Her results, her body changes, her stupid excuse, the people she trains with ... all don't say "innocent". Hassan should be in/up there too. She just has got some damn luck and good protocol on her side. This steroid is a beast and makes beasts. Think Dieter. What's really sad is Let's Run publishing a defense and others who buy into the burrito story and not support the UCI which rigorously investigates neutrally and provides athletes appeals etc ...
I would sample the chorizo. That's a huge seller in those Beaverton taco trucks. Chorizo as you know is ground neck tissue with salivary glands a major component. Norandrosterone is concentrated in salivary tissue (about 40 ug/g) which is more than liver and more than enough to get to 5ng/ml urinary excretion if ingested.
There has been a recent humanitarian and cost saving push to avoid pig castration, so even in the US a certain percentage of pork products will have more male pig hormones.
Of course this doesn't directly prove or disprove doping. Just something the antidoping testing agencies should consider in the future.
