She had an agent, she’s mentioned that multiple times but never given a name.

She does not have an agent since she left Kimbia Athletics in 2018 from what I heard

This explains the bad move to leave NKE with no new contract.
Wes Felix I believe is her agent.
wow, that's bold she left Nike without a new contract in hand. I assumed she wouldn't have walked away unless she inked something better.

If that’s true it seems like he works with Allison Felix and Sydney Mcglauchlin already. Quigley is kind of a dud in comparison. Will be interesting to see what happens there. She is by no means on the level/ level of expectation as those two.
If NB didn’t already have Coburn they could probably leverage the relationship with Sydney to get a deal there.
This really needs to be asked:
Has she contacted JS yet?
The only benefit I see to this is if she’s the type of person who is motivated by people doubting her ability. She may race extremely well just to stick it to Nike lol
Maybe she’s trying to get Mr. Gwen Jorgensen to represent her.

I would also add that if I were her I'd drop her agent. The time to figure out a deal was December, not March. The fact that she went to altitude with BTC, lived with teammates, and did the first few workouts with them says to me that she genuinely did not know what she was doing contract wise at the start of January. That's an awful position for an athlete to be in just six months out.
The second best time to figure out a deal was after the Prickly Pear invite - she got tons of good publicity/press with her fundraiser/charity singlet *and* she beat Schweizer and Cranny in the 3000m. Made her look great on/off the track.
But now brands have blown their budgets, she's got herself injured and pulled out of a race while other athletes have continued to impress. Not only that, but we're almost at the end of the first quarter so that's potentially 25% of the year's sponsorship earnings lost.
As an agent, if you can't get a good deal for a top 10-15 athlete in their discipline who also has 250K instagram followers, then either you're a terrible agent or your client is asking for too much. And if you're client is asking for too much, you're still probably doing a bad job because you need to tell your client that they're asking above their value and that it will make things difficult.
Anyway, just my two cents as someone who has dealt with one or two T&F sponsorships before.
Someone close to her told me she doesn't use an agent. That means she couldn't talk to other brands until her contract was up. She didn't see value in an agent a few years ago since race directors already know and want her to show up
Your move Centro.
Most all Track pros are children living out their parent lost youth.
I've known many Track pros and they don't make that much unless they have a Olympic Medal or World Record.
Many do their college in Los Angeles then try to get into the entertainment business while pursuing athletics.
Financial support from rich parents is the norm.
Here is the deal.
Colleen has had a falling out with Nike.
Nike has a 6 month ability to match any contract presented to Colleen.
Colleen does not want to be with Nike.
She will wait until 6 months to declare a sponsor.

Her parents are teachers in Saint Louis. She did a lot of stories when she went home for Christmas and yeah.. she definitely isn’t coming from money which is probably why she does a lot of side work for money. She isn’t like Kate Grace or Vanessa Fraser where she can just fall back to a nest egg.
I think there are only a couple real contenders for CQ to sign with. The product has to be cool and have a fashion component - a company like Saucony, Brooks or Asics doesn’t fit that bill. NB combines cool with performance but they have Coburn as one of their marquee athletes. Puma is fashion forward but probably blew their sponsorship budget already. If not, Puma is a contender. Adidas has the cool factor but I don’t see them as making a real push like Puma is. If a company like Reebok is trying to grow, an athlete like CQ would make sense. They also have a fashion component. It will be interesting to see what she does.

Makes sense, similar situation to Boris Berian a few years ago. Ended up working out for him in the end, less so for NB who sponsored him.

mmm not how those clauses work. The option and right of first refusal happens before the contract is up, not after. She wouldn't have announced leaving Nike and BTC if this was still on the table.

Right of first refusal works pretty much the same across contracts from all the brands I've seen. Standard is for 180 days after the last day of the contract term.
So is CQ waiting until after the 180 days to sign to avoid Nike matching? Probably not. She said on a podcast she didn't resign because Nike didn't offer her what she felt she was worth. If Nike weren't willing to pay her ask (allegedly 250K), then why would they match that amount elsewhere.
BUT
The wrinkle, would be CQ leaves Nike because she feels they aren't offering her value, but then she proceeds to not get any offers that match her ask of Nike. January and Feb go by with no contract. She starts to get desperate and so wants to sign with another brand for below her ask of Nike. You could get a potentially ugly situation where Nike then want to match that ask.
Going until June unsigned is a risky move for her though. That's six months salary you're tossing out for someone not from money. She could be okay, but not many ppl keep six month emergency funds and she has to pay for camps/training that would previously have been covered by BTC (plus pay new coach).
Anyway, all round a messy situation.

Also the case for coaches, athletic trainers, staff in Olympic Sports in general. There's no money in Olympics sports unless you get a medal. or develop an athlete that medals.
