Fixing a couple of typos! Too many Will's here

I've been following this for a while now - from my perspective the assertion on WC side is:
1. the transcon is presenting a large volume of HR data which doesn't line up with (a) WG's performance history and (b) HR data within the same run - namely there are periods where the HR and paces do not generally correlate with historic WG data, or data within the same run - this is what WC is calling the "dirty data"
2. the phrase "generally" is used with regard to WG data, because the exceptions are various multiday events over the last 3/4 which share the features of being "unobserved"
3. the "major development" is that Balenger, who has accompanied WC on the exceptions mentioned at (2), displays very similar HR data on his own transcon. Having had a very brief look at some other Balenger runs on strava, he otherwise produces what looks to be normal HR data. So the MO looks the same
This leaves 2 possible outcomes:
1. tech fail - but the question remains why do both RB and WG have bad data only in these circumstances? This also ignores the fact that HR wrist data is generally accurate - a few links have been posted earlier on this thread. This hasn't been adequately answered by anyone on the WG/RB side
2. some form of manipulation to the run - equally WC hasn't offered up an explanation here, but there are some suggestions that there is watch muling going on
There seems to be a point that when observed on day 26 there is a 20 mile period where the data looks "dirty" where WG ran with RB - we probably need to know more about the manner in which this period was observed by WC
all said and done - too many "coincidences" here to suggest something below board is going on, and WG (and now RB) don't seem to have tried to explain these - for example, let's see RB data on the 20m segment on day 26 please - he is uploading files but with no HR data

Day 24 is supposed to be "clean" as WillC was observing, but from mile 32 to mile 42 the heart rate oscillates between 156 and 110, while the pace and cadence remains the same and indicates that WillG is running. To me, these type of observations should be the nail in the coffin for the "heart rate theory". WillG and his crew come across as jerks, but there is no reason to believe he is not running the thing.

What happened was he rocked up and insulted the men to their faces, and then refused to back down even when he'd implied he would. But I agree, it is waffling & unbecoming.

It's a good point about publishing the data, but I assume they're just focused on the run. At any rate, whilst all that needs to be explained, we've now had the primary critic witness Will running during periods of problematic data, throwing any insinuation he was somehow cheating in massive doubt.

don't disagree with anything you've said really, you seem a sane and fair observer of all this nonsense. just feels to me that a publicity hungry crew like this lot should be able to face a bit of scrutiny and criticism. they're soliciting attention and the overwhelming majority of people online are telling him how wonderful he is. race officials are often very pedantic and annoying but i've never chucked a rock at an official's car.

Gotta admit this report was anticlimactic. The way it was announced pointed to something big. It was not.

Will Cockrell's report is all about heart rate! Zero evidence, this is a waste of my time. I highly, highly doubt that Will Cockrell has the skills to even download data off Strava and look at it without the data smoothing and prettifying that Strava does to the heart rate.

I'm back I genuinely feel like I've solved this... (Or at least have a solution that fits all the data)

Goodge has acquires running watch has wrist HR capability (like a Coros Pace 2 which I own so this all would fit).

Goodge runs with it on training runs (all data looks good, watch working as should) uses watch but doesn't use strap.

Robbie one day borrows Goodge watch for a training run and pairs his own HR strap.

Now during this events Goodge is legitimately running it all. First half day on his own and HR showing accurate data. Second half he starts watch and as he's running with Robbie (and close enough too him) his watch pairs with Robbie's HR monitor (my watch tries to contact to previously paired HR monitors as they take priority over watch using its own wrist based monitor).

So Goodge is running it but sometimes the HR data is coming from Robbie's HR strap, hence the anomalies (especially second half days and only happening in events when they are together).

Thoughts?

I don't know why anyone needs to go to such efforts to invent an explanation for something that looks wrong. When someone is doing something honestly and above board, guess what, it looks exactly like they are doing something honestly and above board. There would be nothing to talk about.

However, the most obvious evidence that this is a scam are people like Sneakers on the Ground - every time he posts it's like screaming out loud "Goodge is a cheater". Every time you have a cheater you have people like Sneakers on the Ground who repeatedly post to confirm the whole sociopathic nature of what is occurring. Want to know if Goodge is cheating, look for a gaslighter posting to confirm. Thanks, Sneakers on the Ground, for letting us all know this is a scam.

Mind you - if it was done on purpose - would explain the cadence too.

i like this. equally the earlier theory that goodge habitually loosens his watch when he's doing full days of running or something could have something to it. who knows? the complete lack of good faith engagement from the goodge crew and complete fixation on the heart rate patterns from cockerell is comical, all so childish!

What about the other days the anomalies occur - specifically those linked in #754 (that Will C hasn't noted).

As curious as I am, it ultimately doesn't really matter. Will C's seen that during those periods of anomalous data Goodge is actually running.

This was what I thought too when I read that Will's HR went down when Robbie ran with him and the HR went down.

Not easy to prove but quite possible.

Look at everything I've written in this thread, all of it has turned out to be true. That's not luck, that's experience speaking from someone that actually analyzed the data.

The theory from Ultra Bear with the watch being previously paired with a heart rate strap could very well be part of what is at play here. It could also be that Goodge applies sunscreen at midday that sometimes interferes with the optical heart rate sensor on the watch. And loosening the watch at midday when his arms swells from the running is also very conceivable.

If Will Cockerell didn't call Goodge an out right fraud to his face without any evidence, things could have turned out very differently. If this is the typical Will Cockerell investigation, we need to boot him out of his seat of authority, both for an extreme lack of technical understanding of watches and for needlessly over antagonizing social skills.

We’re also talking about British people here who don’t have the same hang ups about language as Americans. I don’t think using some swearing as “proof” of bad or shady character really translates outside the U.S.
