Interestingly, 3 of the 5 sub 15 Indoor MIAC athletes ran sub 15 at a meet that would have been last weekend. I'd forgotten that Tyler Goss is the 5th returner from the Indoor 5000m. 8 men who ran sub 15 Outdoor return this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Turlington, Stencel, Kalua, St. Peter and Goss sub 15 Indoor this year. I don't think Gabe will race that distance. Without Bati and The Future and grads from last year like Lars, Calvin, McKee/Ihrke and the MIAC distance MVP Graber, there isn't much to be excited about.
Very interesting to see the Power and Dave working together to put together a fast 3K for Gabe and Turlington. Rumor has it Dave made a Hawaiian shirt with Power's face to wear this week.
Will be a good test to see how the River Falls young guys compare to the young Oles. Will their XC success transfer? If the do out their whole group under 15:00 in December we’ll expect big things nest year. They may surpass Whitewater and Olaf. I don’t think the top three are going anywhere. I also think Lawrence is a program that the Oles and Whitewater should be keeping an eye on. Their coach was a great runner and is really building something.
After watching Oles and River Falls race this weekend, it's clear to everyone River Falls will beat them next year. They race, like Carleton, seem to want it more than the Oles and have a bigger chip on their shoulder when racing. The young Carleton runners had a hard time adjusting to college and Dave, but they're showing out now. The MIAC title will stay in Northfield the next four years, but it will be on the other side of the river. And River Falls will be a good challenge for Carleton next year as they are young and hungry
This is really hard to read. I just hope that this is from a River Falls athlete and not a Carl, or my opinion of their academic excellent will drop. What an absolute crime against grammar and the English language. I bet even Chunko writes better than this, even if he has use small words and lots of emojis.
Parents took me dinner this weekend we were near Chunko’s boss and wife. wouldn’t have known other than his jacket. Pretty hilarious convo to ease drop on tho. He was very unhappy at the size of the meets they host and the amount of time they take. He complained that Chunko is a hard ass about everything. Sounds like he’s expecting some changes soon. Maybe truth to the rumors?
Olaf definitely hosts much bigger meets than they used to and I heard Power telling Maker that several schools had never said they were coming until the week of the meet. I don't think Waters enjoys Track, but he's the only administrator I've seen a meets in my three years. I know the admin freaked when we hosted the AECMR during MIAC playoffs, so the coaches have to get meets approved in the future. Really hope that doesn't mean more small duel meets, but I could see the admin wanting that.
Nobody cares. Move on. Big meets make better competition. Ihrke probably punched his ticket to nationals and the big three from Carleton are back with some young company.
Hopefully we'll see some good miles at the U of M with the whole MIAC except Bethel racing there.
Will we see Ihrke or any of the Oles at Boston in two weeks?
Congrats to the weirdos with a Power fetish. You're successfully ruining any interest in MIAC athletics. I remember when we had threads about running and not fantasizing about some feeding fetish with chunko.
The MIAC Track Talk thread is actually kinda decent. Hope it stays that way. At least until they find out the Iowa state guys gave the Oles their special pills
Those Mac seeds are definitely aggressive given most have already raced a mile and the Oles/Carls that are seeded behind them beat them. Looks like Dave/Power seeded the guys at what they ran earlier, which seems appropriate for a February meet. I kinda thought Dan was above that. Definitely disappointing. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Ole/Carl seeds adjusted, which just leads to nonsensical inflation.

Schofer's been a weenie forever he's above nothing
Coke Stencel doesn’t need fake seeds. He just crushes PR’s. He’s my pick to win the mile and 3K. Gabe had a nice double, but nobody can touch Cole’s finishing speed. Turkington won’t have the legs after the 5K and I don’t think he has the leg speed in a close race. Did see the other Goss had a nice double this weekend too, but he’s likely fighting the Carls and Mac for 3rd.
I met Power’s boss this week. He’s actually the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Performance and Cross CountryTrack & Field. So he not just the strength coach as people say on here. He really lives the building champions model. It was very inspiring. He has big goals for those programs to raise their level of excellence. I think that will be a good thing for the Oles. He didn’t seem satisfied with their season, saying 13th was a good result but that they should aim higher since his predecessor showed you can win a national championship and be a consistent top four team at St. Olaf. He seemed to know how disliked Power is and said something along the lines of we’re asking all our staff to raise their level of performance. You can take that for what it means. I’d want to work for that guy, so if Power fails out the door, I’ll be first in line to apply.
Interesting news out of the Ole trustee meeting this week. Power and his inability to stay under budget were talked about during a discussion about whether it makes sense to have separate coaches for the two programs. The school is trying to save money and they are looking closely at staffing, especially with several other athletic programs that need coaches and increased budget.
No trustee or Athletics Director thinks they need to have two separate coaches or 50 men for a sport that only scores five runners. Power’s excessive budget use, refusal to fundraise, a contentious relationship with his supervisor, and some conduct concerns from other MIAC coaches don’t help him. It sounds like his boss (the strength coach) and the AD are sick of dealing with him too, so this isn’t good for the few Ole athletes that actually like him.

No fan of the Oles or Power and not sure I believe some random friend of a trustee is rushing to Letsrun, but I'd have to think the roster size is an enrollment driver for men that don't want to do music or any of the low level academics they have over there. Their football program isn't very strong and have small number compared to other schools. Having 80 men on the track roster surely helps.
I’m hearing Power had Seth Clevinger visit before Christmas and thought he would be an Ole. While visiting, he shared his protocol with the Ole 800 crew. Look at Moore’s eyes next time you see him. He’s like a feral honey badger and probably in EPO, bicarb, and other substances unmentioned. I also think Owen and Indy will beat all of them at conference. Nothing good comes from running this fast so early.
This guy almost certainly goes to a bottom half school in the conference - came on here to preach that people are running too fast for their own good. Loser's mentality
