Impressive indeed. She was a middling runner for many years and all of a sudden she is running toe-to-toe with the greatest 1500 runner ever. She was an effing journey woman runner.
And getting beaten handily this season prior to this. What changed?
Amazing run, but it was missing arguably the two best milers of the last four years in Jakob and Kerr. But I agree, this announces Laros as a major contender. Closing that hard in a fast race puts him up there
I guess I’m a bit curious as to why Kerr would not race this Diamond League given that Grand Scam Track LA was cancelled, and he’s literally 4 hours flight time to Eugene from his base in ABQ. It’s a bit disappointing if I’m being honest.
He’s probably too busy working on his latest instagram video advertising perfume.
Houlihan ran every race she could get into when her suspension was lifted hoping to make enough noise she'd get a contract. didn't work and now she's cooked, also demoralized no pro team/sponsor called her.
She might be trying it clean right now for a change. Of course that means, no more 3:54s for her, not even in a race with four women running 3:54 - 3:48.
Looking at things objectively, Hiltz just dipped under 3:56 with no one in front or behind them for a full second. Last year Hiltz ran 3:55.33 while being pushed all the way to the line by ESP and McKay. Do we think Shelby’s 3:54.99 AR goes down this season? I’m willing to bet it does.
That's a good bet. They pretty much equaled their PB today (and like you said, they did it alone); they're on pace...

he overthinks everything. it wasn't on his schedule, so he didn't do it. or maybe he already had plans this weekend.

She was always treating GST like a development phase- working on 800m speed and the strength to race twice. No secret that her 2025 was always geared to peak later in the year. Which is smart.
So where’s the poster who continually writes “Kersee wouldn’t let Mu race if she wasn’t ready”! 🙄
Can't believe they wouldn't run a 600m time trial before throwing her in there.
As a guy who ran 1:57.5 about 40 years ago, I'd say - assuming she is not injured and is in good health - it really wouldn't be hard to get her into at least 1:57.xx shape.
I was a lot slower over 400m and about the same at 1500m, and got there off things like 4x400m in 57/58 on a Tuesday and 8x200m in 27/28 working down to 25 sec. on a Thursday with a race (anywhere from 800m to 3000m s/c) or another session on Saturday, and steady running inbetween.
Given the improvement in tracks, shoes, bicarb, and all the peripheral things a full-time athlete can do (I was working full time), almost anyone could coach her to 1:57.xx shape.
If she's healthy and uninjured, I'd say she either doesn't want to do it any more or she's so inhibited by nerves she just can't perform.

I don't think Athing Mu is that out of shape, she just didn't want to be there. It's more mental than physical.
