Strange the brother didn’t want to go to Cornell where IVW has gotten monumentally better. I have no doubt will make him better, but will be interesting to see if he can surpass his brother. Props to the Gusties on taking a page out of the Northfield playbook and recruiting out of state. They have really stepped up their game recently, while the Oles and Carls seem content to rest on past successes.
My New Year’s resolution is for Stencel to continue to his improvement curve and to win all events he runs at the MIAC meet. And for at least two Gusties to run top 3 in the 10K.
And for Power to follow in hole that he’s fat fat to climb into.
Most of this doesn’t even make sense. Someone kept drinking on New Years Day
Although I could definitely see the Gusties have some high scoring 10Kers. Can Jansen be this year’s Graber? Stencel is good but Turlington is older and that does matter in the longer events.
The Gusties and Johnnies have proven they don’t need four star recruits to have success. I’d suggest they are the best at developing talent in the MIAC maybe even the Region. They just seem to want it more.
High praise for the Gusties lately. It's clearly because Brendan creates relationships with local Minnesota coaches. That's paying off with his young and promising squad. Will be interesting to see if he can tap into Colorado and Oregon the way Mac and the Northfield schools have. Gustavus is much cheaper and more athletically inclined than those three, so they have a lot to offer for runners that don't wany to go to the weird expensive MIAC schools, but want to race in a good conference and region.
I'm personally not sure that out of state runners would be inclined to choose living in St. Peter and notably worse academics over Mac, Carleton, and Olaf. Also, Gustavus is not "much cheaper." It's still like 60k just for tuition, and doesn't have as good of aid as Carleton or Mac, not sure how Olaf's is. And to be fair, often students coming to liberal arts colleges from out of state tend to come from decent money anyway.
All that to say that it is impressive that Gustavus does as much as they do with those things weighing against them.
He will be coach of the year next year. And likely both his teams beat St. Olaf. Carleton and St. Olaf coaches only coach one gender. no other coach has it that easy.
Cobbers land a nice commit with a 16:08 PR. Could be quite the difference maker for them. Their social media might be the best in the MIAC. Very impressive.
Did a little Strava stalking and saw the soles had five different workouts yesterday. How is that when possible? We all know they are much better in XC. There was no rhyme or reason to the difference as each workout seemed to be engaging different training zones. Is it because there is no plan other than a bunch of workouts copied from other teams? We all know Power doesn’t apply science to training, but I would expect more than this.
I'm genuinely curious. Are you Power haters for real? Or is it some obnoxious joke to you? If so, that ran out of gas a while ago. If you are serious I thought kids in the MIAC were of a little higher level of intelligence. Is that just the state of our world now? Are you youngins really that dense? It just comes across as petty and tht you are unable to anaylize things in a realistic way.

It's great to see other teams bringing in impactful recruits. The MIAC has been so down this year and really the last few years, we really need more competition across the board. With a reinvigorated Gustie squad and this news, I have hope for the MIAC.
Any thoughts on what Carleton will look like next Fall? I'm hearing Gabe will use his Final season of eligibility to race on his home course, but not sure if Indy has a medical redshirt up his sleeve. Very curious to see how they will stack up against Mac with both schools having their talented young guys get more seasoning.

A healthy Torte would make a huge difference too. Looks like he's had a good training block lately. I wouldn't be surprised to see him run sub 9:20 the steeple this year, which should transfer to a top 20 MIAC finisher in cross.
It would be very interesting if someone other than the coaches had a say in the vote. It would make sense did the athletes to have a say in the decision for these awards. Although, I’m not really sure why we award the coach award. This about the athletes. The fishes had their chance to do something during their college career.
