Mary Mccarthy just went through mile 25 and is on course for a 2:50:49 - would be a 5 min PB from Sydney - she's gotten quicker in the last few miles, was on for a 2:53 up until the half
Floberg holds on and staves off the bonk with a 7-second PR. We'll never heard the end of it
The real bet is how long is the race recap video going to be?
Thing is, we all know No:Time’s real goal was sub 2:30. It doesn’t even really provide any cover for a failure like this. 90 mile weeks, wife says you’re like “ships passing in the night”, Floizerd already pulled all the levers that he was holding back on pulling - he dialed in the nutrition, he added strength, he tried personalized nutrition at a specialized micro-marathon designed to break 2:30.
There’s nothing left to do but completely reevaluate his approach to training, but that would require a degree of honest introspection that I’m not sure Floberg is capable of, especially because he’s selling himself as a coach and so it’s harder for him to admit he doesn’t know it all.
Sadly, I predict that he blames this all on the “conditions”, and doubles down on mega-volume, trying to consistently hit 100+ mile weeks for spring marathon season. Hopefully he either fires Jeff for someone he respects enough to follow prescribed training, or swallows his ego and actually does what Jeff prescribes.

She's not far behind fellow runna huckster Mo! Honestly, the Runna crewe epitomise everything wrong with the "living their best life" Battersea park run clubs!
Hopefully this race does spark a bit of introspection for him but I agree that neither he nor his coach have any understanding of what it takes to improve. Does anyone know what Jeff's qualifications are? Seems like a total meathead to me. It will be interesting to see how floberg processes this one.

Running 12 hours a week. Starving himself. Wife on the verge of leaving him. Kids don't know who he is. Throwing up during workouts. All for 7 seconds. SEVEN SECONDS.
I honestly wonder what his play is here? Everyone on this thread knew he was nowhere near 2:30. Nothing he has done for a year has suggested this. Surely he needs a good hard look at his training?
Does he double down and think he needs 14/15 hours of running a week? Does he reduce volume but increase intensity? If only the poor guy had a clue about running he may have a chance. If only he had a small amount of running intelligence he could unlock this but unfortunately he'll keep digging this hole.
I guarantee he "goes one more" at Indy. 100% he backs this up.by running Indy.
To me, Floberg's biggest problem is that he's just not fast enough.
I don't think he's ever ran a sub 4:40 mile. He made a big push to break 16 for 5k last year, put out an "I'm sick" video the day of the 5k, ran 16:15 and never made another effort at a fast 5k.
For a guy with no hs xc/ track background, a 1:12 hm and 2:32 Marathon are exemplary performances.
Unfortunately, Floberg has made himself into a pseudo pro runner and ties the theme of his channels to his performance. I could care less how fast a a suburban upper middleclass 30s white dude runs.
Also, I just don't get influencers obsession with the marathon distance. I'd be far more interested in his content if he ran some road miles, xc events, or legitimately took an interest in grassroots running. And no, charging 100 a month for online coaching is not grassroots running.
I wish Floberg luck but he was a lot more likeable when he was a 2:48 marathoner.

I greatly dislike floberg, but what are you even talking about. Didn’t he run a 1:12:xx during a full week of training. Every guy I’ve known that racks 100mpw and can run a 1:12 during the build has been close or broken 2:30, myself included. Really he doesn’t know anything about running??? Maybe that was true when he was a 2:50 guy but common what should he have done soooo different? Don’t say follow his coaches workouts to the T, you’re claiming he doesn’t even have a “small amount of running knowledge”. So I’m sorry what totally different training should he have done? Once again I dislike almost everything about floberg but he had a shot at sub 2:30 today.

His entire training for Chicago was a base phase plan. Great for the summer, but 10 or 9 weeks out he needed to make the long runs meaningful, 95% MP or big chunky 4 x 5k at MP, something, anything other than all easy. He literally did 2 workouts on long runs.
He didn't do enough work. He was obsessed with mileage.
His lack of knowledge shows because he's basically followed the same training plan for 3 or 4 marathons and each time has slowly, slowly, knocked a few seconds here and there off this PB. He doesn't review the training, he doesn't think "hmm, maybe I run 80 miles but have 2 really tough workouts because running super easy every day isn't working" - it's been noted on here by multiple people that his low HR, coupled with him needing to throw up on a workout is a major red flag. He hasn't picked up on this yet. I can go on. The guy was progressing faster following Pfitz
Also "Every guy I’ve known that racks 100mpw and can run a 1:12 during the build has been close or broken 2:30"
What do YOU think he's doing wrong then? He ran a lot of miles, hit a decent HM (which was a small, very small PB on last year). He also reduced mileage for the HM week. So it was a mini taper
2 minutes below ambitious goal time isn't that bad. I've done worse on shorter distances. Now that nuclear meltdown from Mo Abdin is what we like to see from our silly youtubers.
