On the surface it sounds reasonable.
But actually the volunteers do NOT hand drinks bottles to the competitors. Bottles are placed on the table for them to collect.
I'm pretty certain it's done like that so there can be no accusations of a volunteer ruining a race for the runner when the hand off goes awry.
I think having the drinks on a stand behind a barrier was a bit of a problem, just mentally there’s a barrier right there so it’s a little awkward to grab it so close

the suicidal first 5 k probably cost Kipchoge 30 sec in the end. Add the temperature (60-90 sec) and we are talking about
2:02:30. He can do it in Berlin.
