Got to love Hassan. Costs herself wins by being so pre-occupied by closers but the sport is better for having her prepared to race so much and with a lack of fear of what could go wrong.
100m looks so open. Have a few questions about the timing that World Athletics are showing on the screen post race though - not sure what the left hand side is supposed to be showing.
A shame that Brit old newcomer used up a near perfect race in the 1st round. Everything was so clean through every phase. Hope he makes the final somehow.
Ultra slow mo looks like Hassan’s hip flexor failed to fire and she dragged her leg. This happens to older runners amazing to see it at highest level. Maybe that 1500m just took a little too much out of her or not enough recovery from the marathon and it’s a deep injury when muscle fibers are spent.
Interesting observation.
She did have some kind of problem - hip or upper thigh - in the London marathon too.
I am an older (much older at age 66) and last year was sprinting nearly flat out in a warm-up and the right leg just failed to appear and the next thing was I did a barrel roll on the track. Very similar sort of thing to what you are describing.
Maybe she has some wear and tear, and at a certain point of stress/fatigue the hip flexor just doesn't fire?
I wonder whether the Ethiopian federation specifically ordered them to run as a team. Gidey must have known she had little prospect of winning with the strategy that played out in the race, but I think that team glory outweighs personal glory. You cant argue with 1st 2nd and 3rd placings after all Tsegay will always win a sit and kick.
Very nice gesture for Gidey to immediately check on Hassan after the race before celebrating her own result.

I was wondering same
What happened to Hassan is very reminiscent of what happened to Gidey at world cross, so I’m sure Gidey is particularly aware of the emotions Hassan must be experiencing. I’m rooting for Hassan to bounce back and medal. As for the haters who feel she impeded Tsegay on purpose, I think that’s bs. She was in an all out sprint giving every last bit of energy to the point of collapse. Drifting is natural under these circumstances and Hassan always flails her arms. She was clearly at a point where she had little to no control over her body. Tsegay bested her and was going to win, but Hassan’s effort was laudable. As others pointed out, Hassan’s trip on the last lap was not ideal.

The Boling fanbois going gaga over a 45.13 3rd leg sums up letsrun. He earned his spot by making the USA final but he’s run of the slowest (of not the slowest) splits of any American medalist on a 4x400 relay at Worlds or Olympics in the last 40 years.
Actually I think a vast majority of the "praise" Boling is getting (like mine) is being done with a little tongue in cheek. Nobody really thinks he's going to go on from here and win medals and break records in individual events. It's just funny that for all the fun being made at his expense , he now gets to walk around and say that he has a gold medal and a world record.
100% egit post. Femke was running at her fastest-ever split, in the 48.xx range. She didn't buckle because of impending pressure. She buckled, because this was her second 400m today.

He ran a couple of sub 44 relay splits in college. Also sub 10 and sub 20 in 2022. His running took a dip this year.
Hassan was no class for not even getting up and finishing.
So what if you missed the medals and are devastated. You're 10m from the finish and you're gonna just lie there and mope about falling? You could be 4th, 5th. Get up and get a result.
Now here comes the winner to console you and assist you to stroll across the line, even though the only injury is to your feelings. If not a technical DQ from an assist, that is still no class behavior for an athlete and competitor.
In an olympics a couple decades ago, a British 400 runner's leg about clean tore itself off from him on the 2nd turn, but he tried to get up and stagger forward, he wanted to finish so bad. His dad jumped onto the track and helped him agonize the last 110m on his mutilated limbs (a DQ of course) as the crowd wept and cheered in amazement. Hassan is the complete opposite of that.
Actually wasn't DQ'd, officially DNF. A better example would be that of Abby D'Agostino in the Rio 5000.
