You forgot where this started. You were upset at professors being a lot to “only teach 3 days a week”
I explained that’s not why we pay professors a lot.
Then you changed the subject to the fact that taxpayers fund federal grants… duh? What’s the point.
You need to stay coherent to stop being laughed at.
This thread is about student loans. Student loans are necessary because tuition costs are sky high.
The average cost of tuition has gone up over 3000% in the last 50 years.
You didn't explain anything. You offered an incoherent rational.
Why do you think tuition has gone up over 3000% since the government got involved with student loans?
I was responding specifically to your complaints about professor pay in reference to teaching loads. I wasn’t offering a tuition cost solution I was responding to your misunderstanding on the role of professors at major universities.
There’s a lot of reasons tuition costs have climbing. Federal government takes a lot to blame for sure!
None of what you're saying is coherent. Of course other countries can supply Europe with energy but the fact is Russia has, that's got nothing to do with the increase in renewable energy. How is it the fault of leftists that want to use renewables? If renewables supply Europe with 20% energy that's 20% they don't have to buy from Russia and 20% that hasn't experienced a huge hike in prices due to the Ukraine war.
Europe willingly put itself under Russia's thumb.
Germany dismantled their nuclear reactors and then spent 2 TRILLION Euros to make their grid fully renewable. Then they learned the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow in Germany.
This made them even more dependent on Russia.
Russia is now going to exploit that dependence as soon as the Europeans start freezing to death this winter.
What these idiots are trying to do with renewables is akin to humans trying to transition from cars to exclusively air travel in the 1930s. We are decades away from viability.
How can you not understand this?
To quote a famous poster “this thread is about student loans”
Your predictions have been notoriously false (like Bad Wigins!) so I am now reassured Europe will be ok this winter! I used to be worried. Let’s check in, in December? Deal?

Germany became reliant on Russian gas during the 1970s when it became obvious the North Sea would not be able to provide for much longer. Reliance on Russia did not happen when they tried solar power and "learned the sun doesn't shine" in Germany that much.
In order to decrease Russian dependence, Germany has turned to renewables. It's an ever increasing percent of their energy supply.
And none of this has got anything to do with leftists. Angela Merkel ran Germany for 16 years as a member of center-right Christan Democratic Union.

Skyrocketing prices for natural gas have Europeans scrambling for alternative energy sources. In Germany, where households face a 480 euro rise in their gas bills, people are resorting to stockpiling firewood.

Germany didn't become reliant on Russian gas in the 70's. Google a little deeper.
Nordstream 1 wasn't even completed until 2011.
In 2017 the orange Russian stooge sanctioned Russia halting the completion of Nordstream 2 and the leftists in Europe went nuts.
In a joint statement, Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern and German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said, "Europe's energy supply is a matter for Europe, and not for the United States of America."[205] They also said: "To threaten companies from Germany, Austria and other European states with penalties on the US market if they participate in natural gas projects such as Nord Stream 2 with Russia or finance them introduces a completely new and very negative quality into European-American relations."
And thinking Angela Merkel is "center-right" is laughable. American Democrats would be considered right wing zealots in Germany. Being just the right of Lenin doesn't make you "center-right"...
Nah, man. The reason college is so expensive is because it's so worthless. I heard that the fastest growing major is actually "leaves" or "stems" or something. Must be some woke vegan sh*t. What a crock! Nobody needs a college education to make a decent living. Just look at Lauren Boebert. She dropped out of high school and still managed to land an extremely high-paying acting gig. Now that's an admirable example of personal responsibility.
College is so expensive because "enlightened" leftists like yourself decided it wasn't fair that people with no money couldn't afford to go.
You injected the federal government in to subsidize the loans so 18 years with nothing could suddenly be approved for $250,000 loans.
Then the enlightened leftists like yourself at the schools said "Hey! These students can get $250,000 loans now! We can charge whatever the hell we want!"
Now the average professor makes $150k a year and teaches 3 classes a week and the country has $1.7 TRILLION in student loan debt.
Great job "fixing" affordability in higher education.
The government is shouldering less of the cost of college, forcing students to pick up more of the cost.

Nothing to do with European nations intentionally decommissioning their nuclear power plants?

Here's the chart. Germans started buying Russian gas in the 70s. It did not start or increase with a failed experiment in renewable energy.
The use of renewables is so that Germany can replace Russian gas. You can criticize them for not buying gas elsewhere sure, but that's got nothing to do with their use of renewables.
But this is not the thread for this, so I'll just leave this here.
So the White House is now hinting they’re going to pay for their illegal vote buying act with money coming from deficit reduction. Seems like their finding a lot of stuff lately with money that doesn’t actually exist.

Bear in mind that the dishonest morons are using 2021 spending as the standard for federal spending.
The federal government spent almost $7 TRILLION in 2021. The largest sum ever spent by any government in the history of human civilization. Biden budgets $6 TRILLION for 2022 and declares that he's the thriftiest president in human history because he reduced the deficit by a trillion. He's senile and stupid so maybe he doesn't actually know that $6 trillion is STILL a TRILLION dollar deficit.
They lie about an imaginary surplus they've created and now they are pretending they can spend that trillion without increasing the deficit. Disgusting.
It's because they also get orders of magnitude more in financial aid than I did and have a starting wage orders of magnitude more than I did when I graduated.
Are there really still people around that honestly think that education today is not more of a burden that it was for older generations?
So you don't understand how to account for inflation? Maybe you should have went to a different school. Your education seems to be lacking.
Should have *gone.
Maybe don't call someone deficient in education when you can't even use a past participle correctly.
I noticed it but this is a public forum so you’re stuck with us. I’m looking for the corresponding thread for Republicans and not seeing it. Not surprised because we’re open minded enough to listen to anyone. And not really living in a corresponding bubble.
It isn't a question of being "open-minded" (although that is an oxymoron when equated with the Right) but that a thread purporting to have a Democrat perspective is essentially just another stream from the Right. But that's this site generally.
If this thread was truly void of democrats, as you hinted at earlier, then there would be no dissent. The fact that there is dissent means you are incorrect.
When I heard the news I got physically nauseous from knowing the sacrifices I've made the past 2 years working my a$ off and using my life savings to pay off my student loan debt as early as possible. And missed out on $10k as a result. And now, I am burdened by the tax debt of $1 trillion for those who have their debts forgiven. Unbelievable.
The good news is that you only have to pay a lot of taxes if you make a lot money.
It’s interesting when people get upset at the site of others getting any benefits.
I did everything that I could to graduate college without any debt. I have children that will be taking on debt and we won’t qualify for the full benefit. We expect to pay for everything.
I don’t feel any angst towards others getting help that I never got.

It isn't about others getting help. It is about the inflation that will follow, and the additional tax burden on those who cannot afford either.
The Congressional Budget Office said in a Monday letter that President Biden's student loan handout will cost American taxpayers more than $400 billion.
