Not sure why, but 9/11 inspired a bump of this thread.
Always remembered.
Can't believe it's been 10 years. Never forget.

Thanks for the bump. It gets hard to remember the things we’d like to sometimes. Reading the thread again brings back some memories, and for a brief moment restores my faith that our society still has compassion. It just takes the worst of events for people to display it.

Reporting just so the mods can keep an eye on this thread. LRC was a much different place when this thread was started. Ryan was a good man and a tough-as-nails runner.
RIP Ryan Shay. I remember our team watched the race, then did our long run with a few guys running ahead as a joke at one point and waving their arms the way Ryan Hall did as he came down the stretch as OT champ. Then we were in the dining hall afterwards and the only guy who had a smartphone (an iPhone 1) showed us an article saying Shay had died. That was actually probably the first time I can remember learning a big bit of news off a cellphone, the whole smartphone era was really just underway. That’s a lot more common now but since we weren’t used to that, it made the news even more surreal. It was just our table that was floored by the news, the other tables full of non-runners just carried on as normal. Very surreal indeed.
