He also has fast finishing speed if the pace is hot in the middle. He outkicked all the best Ethiopians in a fast diamond league 5k in Oslo. I think he could medal in both events.
It slowed down though between 2k-4k. When the pace was faster in Paris he was toast.
oops. As for the paris 5k, Nico tried to catch up to Kejelcha who was running WR pace.

The Paris 5000 went through 3000 almost at world record pace. That is not going to happen in Tokyo.
Exactly, but a faster pace may happen in the 10000 because it has the top Ethiopians. That's why I said I really like his chances for Silver in the 5000.

Nico wasn’t as good back then. He was definitely tired after such a long NCAA season last year so a fresh Nico with optimal training(this year) would have done very well in that race.

They were running close to world record pace. I don’t think they’re going to go through 3k in 7:36 at worlds…
Fisher looked flat to me. Not as snappy as earlier in the season.
I think fisher looked pretty normal. Nico has the top end speed of an elite sprinter. I’d be curious what Nico could do for a flying 200. That last 30 looked like something sprinters have. Grant still closed in 13.5 and his turnover looked about like 250. just didn’t have that extra umph in the hips.

I think you're misunderstanding. Last years 10000m was won inn 26:40 ish. That's pretty quick and I don't think Nico would do as well in that race vs a 5000m with a fast final mile in 13:10.
In other news, Graham Blanks is also better than I thought. He's gonna be around for a long time.
The 2x NCAA XC Champ who has run sub 12:50 twice in the same season in his first year as a pro (while still taking classes at Harvard) is “better than you thought?”

That is pretty quick but he also ran 26:57 in that race following a LONG collegiate season with an insane amount of racing. He ran 12:57 and 26:52 so i've always felt like the 10k was his better event (many were saying this even when he was in high school). I do believe he would have run into the high 26:30s had he run a fast 10k this year, and I think any concerns about how he would do in a fast 10k at a championship now are overstated.
I absolutely cannot believe Infeld won that. During the race I was noticing that she had a hitch in her stride (more than she normally does) and I was thinking wow good for her for sticking with this. What a run from her
Glad you said that. I thought I was going nuts. It looked to me like she was limping, and I figured she was about to drop any second.

Does she normally run like that?
Yes, she had hip surgery a few years ago. Tough broad!

Yeah, she basically does haha. She's just a monster engine with a good kick.
When? I remember a couple finishing in 4:00-4:05 but not sub 4
Got to think the best finish in a fastish 10000m was Mo Farah in Rio running the last 1600m of a 27:05 race in 4:02 with a last lap of 55:37.
Don't know about the last mile, but in his last 10000m WC, he closed a 26:49 with a 56 last lap (or 55?), last k under 2:30 IIRC. I think that's by far his most impressive race, up there with Bekele 26:44 in 2009WC.
