New Gen Camp = Misogyny Training for High Schoolers

Come on dude, you know that's a bad argument. People lose opportunities because of their social media posts all the time. People my age lose jobs that they've had for ten years because a post from 20 years ago is re-discovered. It doesn't always work out this way, but it can.

In the case of an athlete/celebrity partnering with a company for an endorsement, the company is not partnering with the person because it likes the person (although it might). It is because the company thinks it can make money in the partnership. If the athlete/celebrity alienates the customer base, it doesn't matter how fast he or she is (or whatever other attribute the person is known for). If the company views the person as a risk, that person might have to agree to a far less lucrative partnership, or lose the endorsement altogether. Instagram posts have cost Ja Morant a whole lot of money in the past year. I'm not equating the two situations because they are hugely different, but to say that no one cares about pictures on instagram is wrong, or at least could be wrong.

I am not saying that what was posted will definitely cost these student-athletes opportunities, but it could. And I definitely don't see a situation where it helps them.

If you think I'm wrong about this, I'm still willing to listen, but if your only argument is that social media doesn't matter it doesn't take much searching to refute that argument.

agree. don't think they were trying to turn the NewGen debacle into needless kid shaming

but did find it interesting that Aaron (who is a legal adult) admits to being an unsafe menace on the roads due to driving while using his phone for Snapchat, makes a series of gratuitous chauvinist sexual innuendos, was so hopped up on pain meds after racing that he couldn't think straight (remember the weird 'torn' IT band), and sort of self identifies as a airhead.

great HS runner. jury is still out on if he'll be a great person. early days, lots of young adults are lacking in emotional intelligence and/ or self awareness. just interesting to get some behind the scenes about a guy who's been all over these threads this year.

My brain is struggling to comprehend how this thread has this much momentum to bring New Gen and its creators down. I spend a decent amount of time lurking on message boards and can generally predict or understand where/why the mob moves the way it does but this topic and thread is defying what I'd consider a normal event response.

Yes the post was bad and it's fair to question it.

Yes the comments were bad.

Yes the New Gen actions/inactions are bad.

But this takedown effort (in this thread only) goes beyond a couple bad content instances and seems more to be fueled by a hatred of the ethos New Gen have curated over the last several years.

The boards response here appears to me like a bunch of boomers feigning offense to this by adopting "woke" principles for this issue only.

There is no way apparel brands are going to feature their name with new gen’s anymore after this…there’s just too many people outside this forum in the real world that have read the comments, blogs and seen the images. Don’t fool yourself otherwise…

none of the companies will come out with any public statements since there really is no need to…unless people stop buying their products and they start to feel it financially. They’d be crazy to touch this unless they absolutely had to.

Odds are new gen will stick around and continue to operate but it won’t be with any name brand sponsorship. They’ll be on their own dime.

and I’d venture a guess that athletes lwould want to distance themselves or second guess being featured in their work from here on out

Dominic, who is a high schooler himself, is known for being surprisingly mature and will look at both angles of an issue fairly. He doesn’t just auto defend his friends and would never write some of the lines that are in that fake post

i had a buddy who worked on a work trip that Dominic was on, and the entire time Dominic could have very easily underaged aged drink like most of the other underage creatives in the sport does, but he and no one else ever saw Dominic drinking or smoking weed or any of it. Like, the kid was really careful of being professional at all times and not screwing things up.

not because that underaged drinking and weed are “bad” but because the kid understands that this is his work, not a frat party, and that if you’re partying all of the time questionable stuff can rise up cause boundaries were crossed (like how it is with new gen now)
