Gwen big time screwed up not going to IronMan. To quote Pre -"To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." She big time sacrificed her gift for triathlon. She was dominant in ITU and it would have carried over to Iron Man.

i'm sure she's kicking herself.
Probably could have been 202 olympic triathlon champ as well.
but it's cool she took a chance and got out of her comfort zone. i appreciate that.

Whenever I watch videos of Gwen winning gold at Olympics Tri, her running form seems much smoother and less how I would describe as GIANT awkward and stressed.
Something about her high fiber high meat diet is not working for her and she just physically looks depleted all the time. I think using her husband as her nutritionist and cook is probably hurting her. She needs someone objective to completely look at her diet as it is not working for her.
Is Prefontaine still a Hero? I thought he was the hero to older generation when there were no black distance runners.
YES, but Shelby is healthy and training well.

I think it's good that Gwen is trying to get care for her foot pain but I'm not totally sold that that's what's really going on with her training/performances. She's super channeled into running a certain amount of mileage and even states that was something she is proud of (that she handled 120+ miles for 5-6 wks). She then explains that the foot pain she was having was causing her to be moody and to feel emotionally and physically fatigued. She was having performance declines especially as the distances were getting longer. I don't buy this....she is overtraining and has all the classic symptoms. If she wants ANY chance of running in the olympics she needs to get out of this "I will run the Olympic marathon" fog and focus on the 5 or 10k. Period.
All of this. And she was also adding volume on the bike and other cross-training. I dunno - it all seems very disordered to me - beating her body into the ground for the sake of training. I'd like to see her do well, but I can't imagine Jerry signing off on that amount of volume for volume's sake.

She is a competitor, not a completitor. Womens field in ironman is weak.. having one female dominate for many years

If her hubby wasn't nutritionist and coach, he might have to get a job!

Wow so Jorgensen, Flanagan and Infeld all had surgery, Shelby apparently hurt, Quigley just coming back from being hurt. I think Fraser is hurt too. That’s a lot of people from one group. Is it the training? The shoes? I guess maybe some are more prone to getting hurt (Ex: I don’t think Fredrichs has been injured her whole time with BTC).
"its gotta be the shoes"
Truth be told a bit of analysis might show Nike might have a problem with some of its shoes.
