The 5000m (and 10000m) are no longer part of the Diamond League events (nor are the local youth races that go on at the same meets), which means big cuts in available winnings and attention. The 3k was also subject to removal, because the provision was that 3k would be the maximum distance, not that there would be a 3k every time or even at all, and the 5 and 10 are being discussed for removal from champs as well. There was a proposal to have the 1500m be the top distance. Coe is destroying long distance running on the track.

Are we gonna make an individual thread for the 11 people that beat him? Yeah it's great that he stepped up. He's a good runner. He's been running the 1500/mile and beating senior runners. BUT 11 people beat him, they weren't afraid to show up either and lay it on the line. Just saying.

Those 11 aren't "real people". Not on letsrun.com anyhow.

Ingebrigtsen is a poor hill runner, did terrible at the hill race in Norway against Norwegians, and specializes in the 1500m, so you wouldn't expect him to do great. He is a very good xc runner at more or less flat courses. That his competition is likely in their 20s is not really the issue. Competition at World junior xc at the top can be pretty close to the senior level. The question really is how guys with basically 14 minute 5k's could destroy a 13:18 guy (really more of a sub 13 guy, I would bet).

They may well run sub 13 this year but the question is valid.

To those complaining about why rojo would make a post about his mediocre performance: it's a controversial choice sure to generate just the sort of active thread we see here now. Well done, rojo, they'll playing into your hands perfectly.

My take? He went balls to wall. Give him victory, or give him utter defeat. 12th place may as well be 4th place. No one cares about your non-podium place, and Jakob doesn't care either...which is why he did what he did. Meanwhile, he showed fighting spirit and an unwillingness to settle for the best loser.

Please provide a source or link that states the IAAF are discussing the 'removal (of 5k & 10k) from champs'.

You should read the following link, which puts their actions into perspective.

I really don't believe the IAAF or Coe are out to destroy long distance running. And as the link says, the format of the Diamond League will be up for discussion at the end of the season.

i put a lot of gas on that fire of speculation and why not? pouring gas on the IAAF is a good idea, attacking them is a good idea. putting them into place is a good idea. getting rid of them is the best idea.

Side note - why do people think he must be clean? Norway has a history with doping just like the rest of Europe. And being tested hardly guarantees being clean...
