I think this is a great goal! Won't add much to what others have said. However, I will say, when it comes to training, the first month, maybe 2 will be fun and motivating. For me, hitting paces during workouts is definitely challenging, but it is nothing compared to doing it for months or years at a time to get to an aspirational goal. So I would advise sprinkling in some races to keep things spicy and break up the training! Good luck
5 minute mile at the age of 44 off 20 miles a week with virtually no speedwork? No running background until a year ago? Inspiring co-workers through your supreme fitness? Not convinced.
Happy to clarify on the speedwork as it was a bit downplayed. There was some, but not much.
- No speedwork faster than 5:45/mile between March and October, as I was hesitant to ran fast after my tennis-induced hamstring pull from March.
- I started 4:48 pace repeats (1 to 2 mins each) on treadmill twice a week from early Nov, right after my 5K run. My plan was to try 5K in early Nov and then try a mile in late Nov to evaluate my fitness.
- My initial fitness on day one in Dec 2018 was holding 4:48 pace for 1:46 on a treadmill. I've never gained weight in my life and kept myself generally active, though not running or biking.
