The issue is that revenue is declining at ESPN.
The model has been that non-sports watchers are paying for ESPN as parts of bundles. This basically subsidizes sports watchers.

Start off with a company to promote the sport and provide video coverage. Then, let the monster take over and line your pockets after awhile. It's all the same schtick.
If you want it to be streamed for free, another service needs to step up to the plate and build a base that's donation only funded. Or some bored trust funder can do it.

I have plenty of disposable income, and could easily pay 29.99 or whatever to watch the Division 1 championships. The NCAA championship is one of the best races in America, so I could see paying for it.
The problem is that my prior brushes with Flotrack have been negative. The announcing and production quality is of an amateur nature, and by and large their programming makes watching less than enjoyable.
Have things changed? Have theyimproved?

Does Flotrack tell all of their staff to come here to defend them? Maybe instead of telling your employees to go tell all of their customers that they're wrong you should look in a mirror and do some self evaluating.
You act like everyone wants to watch all of those races. Well I have news for you, most people that sign up are only interested in watching one race. Therefore to watch that one race costs you $20. Nobody in their right mind would pay that much to watch one race. Maybe $5. Definitely not $20 or $30.

I am conservative and I think it is ridiculous how much Flotrack is charging. This is something that would be free to everyone if Flotrack didn't exist. Flotrack is hurting the sport, not helping it.

I'm an annual Flo subscriber for many years now. Flo has been VERY good for the sport. Our local HS kids subscribe to and definitely watch Flo.
Bottom line - until a sport is large enough to survive off of advertising while airing live events (think NBA, NFL, MLB) we will pay to watch live XC and TF for most events. Nothing is free - someone's gotta pay to make it worthwhile for others to produce the video/product.
IMHO, the annual cost of a Flo "pro" subscription is about right. I just wish they would do more in depth docs like work-out-wednesday's, etc... just to learn more about other schools and groups.

That's the typical response. We aren't living 50 years ago, we are living today.
With volume comes profit. By charging that much money they will only hit a small number of potential subscribers. Lower the price and the ball game is changed. Yes, it's that simple.
As for the running part, they won't profit nearly enough with their revenue until the rate is lowered. Sorry, I've been around the block many times with people in their position. One "unnamed" company went back and forth with me saying they'd never lower the price...they cut it in half 12 months later. No, it wasn't because of my emails, it was $$$$$ reality that caused it----they got greedy and it backfired.
$30 per month is far too much if you are trying to reel in a major portion of the running community.
But, go ahead and tell me I'm wrong. I run 2 businesses in Michigan and figured it out at a very young age as minimal profits force you to change your strategy to create "real" growth. They may do well with their other ventures, but the $30 price will drop soon or their audience will dwindle as live streaming events are everywhere now, and many are free as they make their money thru strong and smart advertising.

For me anything over $5 a month is probably to much. Don't have a problem with Amazon or Hulu at around $10/m because I can turn them on any time and watch something. Unless I can turn on flortrack and watch live track and field at all times of the day which I doubt happens. Until the price comes down I'll pass.
They should fire the terrible staff that does race commentary & stupid weekly shows. This would save a lot of money. I only want to watch races & refuse to join this "pay up" business model.

100% agree. If the quality of the broadcast was going to be what the ACC meet was a few weeks ago I would gladly pay. But it will be shaky cameras, a feed that cuts out constantly and announcers that will be screaming at the mic and almost having an orgasm as they call the finish of each race. No thanks I have so tile that needs grouting next weekend
But that would still be adding something to them, which Flotrack isn't doing. It be more like buying the hamburgers, taking a bun off, then selling it.

1) As someone has pointed out, the average person has zero desire to watch d1, d2 and d3 nationals. Anyone watching d2 or d3, and most of those watching d1 are parents, relatives or alums. So you'd be paying just for one race. Please tell me what other race I'd want to watch? Answer. Zero.
2) And this is my biggest issue, you can't just pay 19.99 or 29.99. You have to subscribe .
The whole business model is to get parents to pay for johnny's race and forget to cancel or to get every college and HS coach to write it off.
