Enough of this "highest rated" crap regarding colleges. U.S. News & World Report was close to the dumpster of history, like the old Soviet Union they made book on, until they happened upon the college ratings game to scam the rich niche market of paranoid boomer parents
Many of the ratings are based upon dubious factors which can easily be gamed, such as 'selectivity". The more selective, which means the number of applicants accepted divided by the number of applicants total, moves a college higher in the rankings. University of Chicago has been famous for moving up the list on that alone. Mass, direct marketing to high school students who would not have a prayer getting in. Brochures with their names stenciled into it! They start with No Application Fee and target particular high schools where there is an image-is-everything aroma in the air. The target may even have an ACT as low as 26, GPA of 3.0 / 4.0, no particular athletic or extracurricular endeavors, and last but not least, a white male. Sorry, Charlie, but you just didn't make it, meanwhile you helped us become more selective! Oh, and this scam really isn't against Charlie, except for wasting his time, but directed to the top tier paranoid applicants who absolutely must get into the highest ranked colleges. This is what one finds out when you talk to parents outside of the college application / admission sessions at the high schools. Many guidance counselors are in on it too, pushing kids to apply to 8-12 colleges. The term "dream school" is often woven into the dialogue.
As far as Harvard and Yale go, are there any institutions now or in the history of the country where more sociopaths passed through that those?
