She did like a bit spent at Comrades, giving that race a tremendous effort for the win. I was surprised she was entered in WS. Hopefully she will try WS again. Next year she should run Comrades again to see if she can nab wins for the opposite race direction. Maybe WS in 2019?
I just watched Jims pre race interview. And dude was pretty hammered. What a machine.
She did *look* a bit spent.
Elov looks like he's dropping but looks good, Violett came out ahead after 24.4 but may have gotten caught by Lickteig and Boulet. Any bets on whether they will finish like at Sonoma? When/will they split up?

Walmsley 5:15 at Mile 38. Irunfar says that's under 14 hour pace -- is that for real?!
He said he was going for 13:51 incase something happened. He was asking for his pace so he may not know how fast he is

Yeah, but I thought he was 10 minutes up on CR pace. Now just 8 miles later he is 24 minutes up! I will never understand these wild swings. Ultra running is nuts!

the early splits (first 30 miles) are going to be hard to compare due to the 16 miles of snow they're running on today.
and somebody mentioned a 0.6mi detour? any info on that?
also, jim's trying to get a gap on CR pace early as historically nobody has ever really run hard in the first 10 miles or so

Also puts Trason's accomplishments in perspective, who won WS only 12 days after setting a course record at Comrades.
I'm actually concerned she might be badly injured. I know Camille and it would be very unlike her to drop out just because she wasn't feeling her best or feeling tired.

that's under 14hr pace if the that first section is perfectly representative of the rest of the race. but it isn't
no point discussing 14hr pace until we get past halfway. the early splits were run in the snow, and in record years there was no snow
OTOH, women's ultra is WAYYY more competitive nowadays.I think that Camille felt she had to go for it as WS entries are hard to come by.

Looks like it's setting up to be the perfect race for Walmsley. The snow and slush early in the race likely forced him to slow a bit.
He's actually only a minute back of his pace from last year now.

No 0.6 mile detour. I think they meant that irunfar was taking their splits that far in front of the 15.8 mile aid station.
That 16 miles of snow, almost all early on because that's the highest part of the course, meant that Walmsley's effort barely gained (3 min) on the CR splits early on, though it gained him a big lead. Once off the snow, his effort cut into the CR split substantially, though he's only held steady the last 5 miles.
Jim 5:53 through 43.3, about a minute faster than last year despite much slower conditions this year. he should begin to pick up time on CR pace (6:17)
