One thing is proven here. You're an idiot. Congrats.
The only thing proven is that my desk area is clean.

Inspiration for my run today.
I thought it was obvious he did not want to get beat by a girl. She passed him, and then he answered right back.
I am still amzaed that the young African superstar could not beat the noname Japanese guy. I love it.
I don't think he was worried about being chicked, personally feel he would have responded to any pass in the same manner. He was hustling to break 2:20 again, and get an invite from the Dancing Whippets to join their travel team. No bike ride required.
Dancing Whippets? Do you mean the Dashing Whippets?
In any case, I wish we could find out what Koji's impetus was in the last few miles of the race. Too bad these guys get zero credit or publicity. As one poster has pointed out above, it is so easy to relate to these guys...whereas I have little to no interest in the dashing Kenyans and Ethiopians (who could perhaps be doped, anyway).
Maybe Brett Larner could interview him

That would be great. So much more interesting than the run-of the-mill stuff that gets reported to death.

Ooops, yep, Dashing, although they may be dancing too.

Why?
Why not? What is wrong with rooting for guys like Koji? These elites get so much credit for the "incredible" things they do, and yet she got beat by a nobody. I am tired of hearing about their records and greatness. Perhaps they should try running 2:18 and 2:19 back-to-back (a week apart)--while holding a full- or part-time job--and then I might root for them.
Guys like Koji, and the other fast ameteurs, deserve our utmost respect. I am no Koji, but I understand why he runs.

Why are you amazed that a sub-elite man (along with dozens of other sub-elite men who beat him) beats an elite woman? It's not notable.
outsiderunner, how's it going? you still hammering out 6:30 pace on your easy runs?

I see your point. I am amazed because this elite woman is perhaps the best in the world, and, moreover, she has every last thing in her favor, the best of the best from training and coaching to nutrition. She is able to put everything she has into running, and so her performance, while very good, should be very good.

Thanks for the thought, EHJ.
I hammer as much as I can, but I still have some IT band pain. It is a very strange injury, as the pain builds as I run, but then tapers off once I am at seven or eight miles. Thus, I do not know what to think.
I did finish the last .5 of yesterday's 10.5-miler in 3:10, and so 6:20 pace. Went 6:48, 6:43, 3:10 to finish, after feeling pretty crummy in miles 4-7.
I have less than three weeks until the NYC Half. I hope and pray for the best.
All the best to you.

Someone cannot be slower than someone else and the faster person is called sub elite and the slower person is called elite. You don't say someone is an elite woman surgeon or an elite woman scientist and hold them to a lower standard than their male counterparts, this is a ridiculous thing to do. You are either elite or not in a profession and sex or age should not come into it.
The main thing this thread is showing is that the woman runner has been given far too much money and attention by the race organizers and reporters if there were several other runners finishing ahead of her who were given no money or attention.

Yet Koji threw down the superior athletic performance on the day because he ran faster than her. It really is that simple.

You bet. Koji threw down, and he was better.
Koji Hayasaka back in action this week. 2:21:23 for 47th at Lake Biwa, a week after Tokyo.

You put number 148 next to Chepchirchirchir and ask 10 people who they would consider a pro athlete and 11 would point to the gentleman.
Probably half of the surveyed would take up a collection for a sandwich for the human matchstick to eat.
Chris Dorner is an American hero for exploiting the crazy cop culture.

Thanks for keeping an eye on Koji. Can you interview him so we know his story? He seems like a Japanese Michael Wardian.
