He probably wouldn't care about a few thousand bucks, but he might do it just for the entertainment value. Then we can end this stupid conversation forever.

Get them to film it and call that evidence enough of it being legit. Maybe a few guys from his training camp will join him, I bet there will be a fairly large spread of results from guys with a narrow spread of 100m ability. I wouldn't put money on any specific guy running sub 5, but I would put money that if you convinced enough sub 10 100m guys to do it, some of them would run sub 5.

I agree with those who have pointed out that a 5:00 pace is jogging for someone like Bolt, and I think Bolt could jog for one whole mile. A 75 quarter is 30 seconds slower than he can run. There's a BIG difference between running hard for a mile, and jogging a mile.

Many people here seem to think a 5:00 mile is "good". It really isn't. It's good for someone who doesn't run but for anyone training hard at running it's just a nice milestone to hit while on the way to something much better.

I would like to team up with Bolt on this bet and split the value of rojo's tent if he does it.

If it's anything like swimming, i don't think he could do it at all...

No sprint freestyler could ever swim a respectable time in any sort of stroke distance event (e.g., 400 IM, 200 fly, 800 free). Their muscles just aren't trained for it.... Would fill with lactic acid and slow down to a point where they might not even finish without a DQ.

Similar effect at work here, I would think...

I also think Bolt would take it out way too fast. It's a race, and all he's ever really done is sprinting.Without any "distance" training, I question his ability to work in the strategy that other posters are talking about. He would have a tough time hitting certain 400 splits and pacing it out correctly.

I would predict a time in the low 4:30's for Bolt if he could get the pace right. The biggest danger would be that Bolt would likely go out in 54 seconds thinking that he's "taking it easy", and then crash on the third lap.

Take it from me. I was a basketball and football player and all I did was lift weights and run sprints and I joined track in 9th grade and we ran a timed mile on the second official day of practice. I broke 5 easily in cold early spring weather with no warm up in a crap pair of Nike cross trainers.
