I was a little younger than Roy Williams was but saw him run a few times in HS. Sucks to see his record go, but what a great athlete Lyles is (and Norman too!)
Now that Lyles has the High School Record officially, it'll be great to see him and Norman keep trying to chip away at the AJR as well.

I was pulling for Team Norman to break the HSR, but watching Lyles break it was pretty sweet either way!
Just wish one of them would've finished in the top 3. Setting the HSR is nice and all, but it'd be great if it could be capped off with an Olympic berth.
The two of them definitely have a great rivalry. Too bad Lyles didn't run that 20.09 in HS competition, so Roy's record is safe
Anyway, after Norman blazed his semi unnecessarily and Lyles ran his a bit more conservatively, I knew Lyles would have the edge. And what resulted was a nice AJR.
Both guys have a great future ahead of them

Lyles's HSR was impressive, no doubt, I agree with you there.
Yeah it was amazing watching Martin's still standing HSR back then. I think Tyrese Cooper has a good shot at it provided his continued improvement. Already has a (barely wind illegal) 20.46 to his name at 16

Before today, Norman's best was a 20.15, so he pretty much matched what he ran at US juniors. Lyles PB coming into the trials was 20.18
No, there are no official high school records kept, only unofficial ones like Track & Field News, which DOES count high school performances against non-high school competition as records. Jim Ryun's longstanding high school mile record was set against non-high school competition.
