Murphy definitely better than Berian this past year.
Murphy definitely capable of 45.4r, just like any other sub 1:43 runner, despite all the slowpokes who believe goofs like Deano who think that guys who can manage mid 48's are capable of sub 1:43.
Murphy looking like sub 3:30 is in the future, as noted earlier in the thread. If he keeps working he could be a medal threat at both the 800 and 1500 at the Worlds in 2019, never mind Tokyo 2020.

Everywhere else has Murphy listed as 5'11". Seems like a true 5'11", and not a 5'8"guy claiming to be three inches taller.
Not all 1:43.0 runners or faster are 45 sec 400m runners.
Most would be capable of running a 45. ** 400 relay, which would make them 45 high to 46 high 400m open athletes.
But I can think of at least 2 sub 1:43 guys who couldn't and didn't run anything close to 46 sec open 400.
Cram has said he couldn't run below 47, and had a pb of 48.1. Fastest relay was 47.6.
Peter Elliott's 400 pb was 47.4.
Nick Symmonds has never broken 47sec.
