So many different realities are lived at the same time on Earth. For these girls, they were being drugged and trained to the point where it bordered torture.

Sure there is. Many people dope, and the rules provide for banning people due to doping, while simultaneously stating that drugs were the reason for fast times.

Indeed. It is not so much that she admitted to doping, but a group of runners under Ma wrote the letter to reveal that they were being forced to dope.

The fuller back story to this is that a book investigating Ma (the coach of Ma's Army) was published in 1998. It has just been revealed that a major chapter was edited (censored, perhaps) out of the book, because Ma was still a well-known and fairly powerful figure then. Other than the letter, one of the other interesting stories is that after Wang Junxia left Ma's Army in 1994 (possibly because of sexual abuse at a championship in Japan), Wang and her coach received death threats telling her not to compete in Atlanta in 1996. There is alleged to have been a bounty of 5 million RMB (high 6 figures in USD) on her head.

There are other sordid details of the training that Ma's Army was put through. Ma called them a "herd of donkeys", "worth less than humans", allegedly hit Ma for pouring tea too slowly for a guest, forbade the girls from wearing bras, and allegedly once made the team stand in a line and rip off their bras before him.

Two old articles, the first about Junren's athletes testing positive for testosterone and epo in 2000-1 (the article includes an amusing note about IAAF President Jacques Rogge, a Belgian physician, supposedly being very strict about controlling doping in track), the second about the 1995 break of Wang and others from his control, apparently the occasion for the drug letter mentioned now.

FYI, Kiprop doesn't have the WR.

Also, he seems 100% clean to me, especially with his performance in 2012.

The primary benefit of doping is the ability to train harder, no smart athlete shows up to competitions with dope in their system. Beyond the obvious reasons to suspect the Chinese where doping is how fast they ran in preliminary races. No athlete who intends to set a world record would waste energy running superfast in a preliminary round. Unless, that athlete is so doped up that they don’t realize their capabilities. Also, I find it interesting that the Chinese track were some of the records were set was torn up a few months later.
