Yes. The course was USATF certified last week. The organizers had to scramble to get it certified once they were informed that Galen was running. So, in essence, the course was "Rupp-certified".
To clarify: the course wasn't certified this week but the event was sanctioned. Getting a sanction just takes an online application to USATF Oregon and a day or two to process. USATF Oregon does not survey courses.

When Ryan Hall ran his half marathon american record it was a completely solo effort and there were bigger hills to climb
He makes it look very easy in that short clip. This is a fine solo performance on a wet course as a (faster than) MP workout. He seems to get in incredible shape every winter for indoors, so it should be fun to see what he runs this year, whether it is Boston indoor and the like or the Trials marathon, where excepting Ritz and accounting for age on the part of Meb and Abdi, he is just on a completely different level than everyone else.

My guess is that running a half at the end of 2011 worked in the 2012 preparations so they are just doing it again and he has no intentions of making his marathon debut at the trials. But if I'm wrong I would be shocked if he didn't win the Trials marathon.

1:01 mid is almost exactly three minutes off WR. 15 seconds per mile. That's like getting excited about him breaking 28:00 or 2:10. Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

The course Galen ran today has been USATF *certified* since 2013. It was not certified last week! See:

The race wasn't USATF *sanctioned* until last week. Sanctioning just means the race agrees to follow USATF rules and not do something weird, like award the last place finisher first place. To receive sanctioning you fill out a form and pay your USATF association.
USATF Sanctioning and USATF Certification are completely separate processes. Sanctioning is done to a race; certification is done to a course. The Olympic Trials are a USATF event, so they want the qualifier USATF sanctioned. For the rest of the world, we want Galen to have run a true half marathon, so we want the course USATF certified.
A race can have a USATF certified course and not be sanctioned as well as a race can be USATF sanctioned and not have a USATF certified course.
Why is this so hard to understand?
You seem to be in the know so I will ask you. Can someone that's been banned from competition by USADA still enter and race this event? I won't name names but noticed it in the results. Just curious...

He should definitely run the marathon trials. He's got nothing to lose. He can still focus on the 10,000 if that is his wish, or both, but why not lock up a spot and see what he is capable of? I repeat, he's not getting any younger and won't do better than silver on the track. He probably doesn't even make the podium in the 10,000 again.

Is it? Daniels' calculator (https://runsmartproject.com/calculator/) claims 26:44 is worth sub-59 for a half, whereas the AR is 59:43. Relate this out to a marathon race, 2x1:01:20 =2:02:40+8 minutes puts him at 2:10, rested marathon sharp sub 2:10.
He can win the marathon trials and worst case make the team in 2nd or 3rd.
No other male has shown this type of quality effort as of recent.

did he do a workout after?
I saw someone that looked like him, 18 miles from Portland, deep in the suburbs around 1:30-2:00pm. They were wearing a black altitude mask and going slow. I'm sure it was him, but can't confirm it.

The Race Director asked Rupp to give back half of the prize money.
Rupp must decide between world indoors, and marathon trials.
Does he feel he has a better chance for an Olympic medal with a 10k/marathon double over a 10k/5k double?
He could make the team at all 3 events, then decide which two to do.
One interesting note, there are fewer Rupp haters than usual on this thread.

Well that's a good point, but suppose he wins the trials, then performs very well in Rio, maybe even medals? He would then be positioned for a go for the AR at his third marathon. Wouldn't such an appearance invite a handsome sum?
He is going to be pressured to run World Indoors because of the marketing behind the event, but I hope he runs the Trials.

As he should. Worlds is being hosted in the US. Every single athlete should participate in this. Especially every Nike athlete because it's in their backyard. Athletes skipping world championships is ridiculous.
