What is the most annoying american accent?

They disgust me

I have a Philadelphia accent. When I was younger, I felt pretty ashamed of it. Love it now. To be honest, I truly adore most of the accents in the Northeast. Some accents are starting to meld together which is a bit sad. Regionalism is a wonderful thing.

The accent that grates me is that neutral monotone whimperish accent. Ira Glass and John Hodgeman are ones that pop in my head. A lot of people that went to private school in the NE have it. It's the boiled chicken of accents. No flavor. Vocal fry is also pretty unbearable.

To the person who said there is no New Hampshire accent. I don't know what you call it, but nearly every person I encountered from Manchester NH had a very strong accent. You can label it what you want, but most outsiders would easily notice it.

I grew up 20 minutes from Manchester in Concord, NH, and I have no idea who you were talking to in manchester, but I promise you that there is no "NH" accent.

English is by far the stupidest American accent, followed by Australian and New Zealandish. Scottish accents are ok. Craig Ferguson the American TV show host had a Scottish accent.

100% agree with this. american females speaking are unbearable. that accent sticks out in a crowded, noisy room. like nails on a chalkboard.

The worst by far is the New York City Hispanic accent, followed by all the varieties of Southern.

It has more to do with social class than region or locality. The accents of the lower classes are irritating no matter where you are.

Peoria, Illinois, that accent is very unique and very irritating. The Springfield accent is fine but Peoria-speak is terrible.
