when geb ran ran 2"04'26wr, call it 2"04-low/flat as maybe he had some meat to sliver off that meagre bone, he ran 26'52 earlier in year

now that 26'52 was a jog to 9k with pack going thru 9k in 27'01 pace

he was capable of 26'40 that day in a flat-out race

so :

26'40 = 2"04-low

kennster, when he quit track did not look like a better than a 26'40 guy & i severely doubt his 10k has improved now he's moved to M, otherwise he wouda done some M-type training for 10k years ago

people keep forgetting that you need some serious current speed to run these whopping M's of 2"03 & now into 2"02s

you can't just keep improving off better endurance

that has virtually hit the end of the road

these improvements over past few years have to involve better speed since geb's M wrs

bottom line :

i don't ever expect kennster in his life, to ever crack

26'40 = 2"03'33

however, kennster will always be a better 10k runner than M, so i don't ever expect him to get close to above even if his current 10k is as quick as 26'40 )

I think Hermens has changed the story a bit... After the race, Bekele was saying his hamstring started cramping after he surged to drop Biwott (or whoever the 2nd place guy was). Sure, KB could have the perfect race w/o such things as cramping etc, but he could also end up like Ritz and cramp every time.

Their is certainly an argument for Bekele as the GOAT. If he gets the course record and wins this weekend, I say his is the GOAT. Geb certainly still has a claim as well.

Some of you seem to have a hard time distinguishing the GOAT and the greatest right now. Although still amazingly good, he hasn't quite showed his 2008 form since then. Even if he DNFs and never runs again, he still has to be in the discussion for the GOAT.

No doubt? Because he came out of nowhere and ran a fast marathon we can backward extrapolate that he could somehow be a track contender too? I don't think there is any evidence. Need to stop inhaling all that ventolin.
