The survey results indicated NO correlation between gender and political persuasion. There was, however, a statistical correlation of r=0.8 between gender and tights wearers. The correlation was highest among female and gender neutral runners.

Ummmmmm, do you go to the quilting forums and ask "Why is this website 99.99% female??? Don't be stoopid!!
Check out running demographics for road races (http://www.runningusa.org/statistics), female/male finishers is 43%/57%, so there should be more female posters here then others suggest. Although men were the first knitters in history, i'd guess women comprise 98% of knitters.
There are many other running websites (runnersworld etc) where there are a much higher rate of female posters.
Here's two of many reasons: they are generally not anonymous, and they are not full of DBs. They also seem to have way more LOLs, so pick your poison. I'd suggest that LetsRun should no longer allow anonymous posters, but then i'd be a hypocrite.
This right here is the He Man Woman Haters Club

Why are you afraid of being attacked and criticized? Do you not have the confidence to defend yourself? It also is very easy to just ignore the people that insult you personally. They don't know you and their opinion should be much a concern.
You're right. I just don't want to be personally insulted. I don't want people to tell me I'm stupid just because my opinion is different than theirs, which I feel happens a lot here. I already know I'm not as smart as some of the people who post here. I feel like they're going to rip me to shreds if I accidentally say something they think is too stupid.
I don't think personal insults should matter on here because the people here know nothing about you. So you should not take their criticisms to heart. And if you write a bad answer that makes you look stupid, use it as a learning opportunity.

This is not an appropriate venue for most women nowadays, although I doubt they literally compromise only .1% of the website traffic. Probably more like 5-10% I'd guess. I would venture that they stay on-topic with running for the most part too. #1 There aren't many women who share the sense of humor that permeates these boards. #2 Women are inherently more inclined to social relationships, which makes anonymity less favorable, which is why you will find more women on Facebook and Instagram than trolling Letsrun.
Interesting. Not an appropriate venue for most women nowadays. Kinda like women were not competent enough to vote? And should not be teaching in the classroom if they were married, like my great grandmother? Or should not be driving race cars?

I'm both a hard-core track fan and rather sarcastic, so I love to go to Letsrun to get news and laughs.
None of my friends who run have any interest in professional running.
If it helps, I'm a female underclassman in HS.
And no, my favorite runners aren't Kara or Lauren. I have nothing against them, but I prefer Jenny Simpson, Cain, Coburn, and Wilson.
Hope this gives you some insight
I only hope you are able to recover from visiting this forum as a teenage high school girl. Good luck. But if you have the sense of humor to get by on this forum without being repelled, you will be quite the fun girl.
I'm not judging whether it's wrong to "think it" I'm just saying there is 2013-2014 data that would disprove most of the original premises stated including "competitive" and "sports fan"
Because this website caters to disenfranchised misogynist males who make up approx. 1-2% of the male population. The small subset of men who regularly frequent this website are vocal and relentless in spewing their hatred of women, which puts off 99% of the female population. There is, however, a handful of women who return to this site to instigate and insult the imbeciles.
Wimmin refuse forums that don't have a wide array of emoticons available to suit their mood.

There are women on letsrun. We've learned not to reveal that because of the high percentage of pigs who post here.
I'll second that.
As has been noted, women read this place, often with nostrils held firmly closed between forefingers. And they account for a surprisingly (on the surface) high percentage of the trolling.
If you're actually asking why more women don't post openly, either under their real names or simply consistent handles by which they may or may not be identified, please see a neurologist. The number of women regulars here who haven't been heckled at some point in a gender-specific way is roughly zero. CH is probably an exception, but come on, with the culture of piggishness that this shithole promotes and encourages, what woman in her right mind would let her presence be known here, except for brain-dead attention-mongers?
Another woman here who has been reading these message boards for the last 8 years (has it really been that long?). I must admit that I came for the training discussions and would pore over all the training threads, but stayed for the trolling (and developed a thick skin in the process).
I agree with someone here who said that unless someone specifies their gender, they are assumed to be male... I will admit I have done my fair share of trolling on these boards, as well as many of my (women) teammates in college...
