where did you get your statistics? seriously.
where did you get your statistics? seriously.
Because most women come on here and say "oh yeah...thanks for the reminder why I WON'T date distance runners...."
Because males like their sports talk to be hard-core weenie roasts. It all started with Gladiators going mano-a-mano.

The doping poll had like 95% men respond... so it might not be 99% but it's a lot more than any other website I've spent time on.
I hit that poll like 50 times.

I know most sports websites or "nerd" type online communities are male-dominated but it's usually like 75% not 99%, and it's not like running is a male-dominated thing.
I want serious answers, trolls and the usual "jokesters" need not reply.
Well, I was looking at the Zurich discussion thread earlier which occurred in the middle of the (work) day. And I couldn't help thinking, DON'T ANY OF THESE PEOPLE WORK?
Not surprisingly, most women aren't going to want to go out with a bunch of guys who don't have anything better to do than chat about pro running in the middle of the work day.
Because this site is less about running and more about saying horrible things behind an anonymous persona. Women like to know who their b!tch sisters are.
Because in my experience males that are interested in track and field/running in general are far more interested in the sport
On my track team there is not a single girl who spends any time outside of track on track related things
because the fierce little flock of angry birds is too busy loving kara and wanting to be her friend
There are women on letsrun. We've learned not to reveal that because of the high percentage of pigs who post here.

It's just a coincidence
If you really are serious - and recognizing that I will get flamed - maybe it's because of the way female athletes - and women in general - are described on the boards. Typical threads:
1. She is old, stupid and narcissistic (see any discussion of Kara Goucher, Lauren Fleshman)
2. She's hot/ not hot - who'd you rather?
3. Threads which denegrate women - especially the dreaded middle-aged female "hobby jogger" -- as a sign of the coming apocalypse
4. Threads where posters insult each other by referencing sexual violence
5. Criticism heaped on anyone who questions the culture
I am not saying that the forums need to be a humorless PC bastion. But, a little more focus on running - and a little less misogyny - would go a long way. That, and we are all to busy working at real jobs, getting our runs in and having fun to waste time on BS (joke).
Hey, we hate male hobby joggers too.

Most people today work with a computer which allows them to take minutes out of their busy job to post something that takes seconds to type.
Or they have a phone.
I would theorize men generally have a bigger since of entitlement, whether or not they are experts on a particular subject, and thus are more likely to post dear abbey responses all day every day on letsrun. Also, posts that are perceived to be female authored face more hostility than posts perceived to be male authored regardless of content and probably reduces the number of women posters. I'm a 10 out of a 10 not an 8...

That's what she said. Or maybe she meant "pole".
Because being openly female leads gives you way too much attention on this website (mostly negative attention) so most girls either post anonymously or don't post at all.
Also most of my female runner friends just don't spend a lot of time on online forums at all, not sure why.

Most are not into the extreme competitiveness that males thrive on. The woman who do post here ignore, for the most part, those posts on the forums.
There's no financial gain potential to post here.
Unless you've been living under a rock for 10 years, you should know that anonymous internet dwellers are pretty bad people (refer to post above), especially towards women. I think you probably do live under a rock.
If you want to find the descendants of ye old southern slavers, look to the internet.
