Stunned by U Colorado Buff's mediocre recruiting class

give the kids some time, you never know what will happen. gonzales, the one freshman from colorado, ran 918 up here for 3200 this year. to put it in perspective, brad harkrader ran the exact same time as a high schooler in Colorado and collected a few AA certificates at CU, a big 12 championship, and ran 1354. its not world beating by any means but a very solid contributor in both xc and track.

for what its worth, gonzales had the same high school coach as brent vaughn.

Add to this that grade inflation there is far far less than the national average (http://www.gradeinflation.com), and I can attest to this personally too. Add to that the importance of research and grants, nobel laureates, etc all of which CU has a surprisingly high amount.

Basically if you're an engineer, biochem/molecular bio, or physics/chem major it will be hard to find a better education. That said Uni is still what you make it.

As a CU biochem guy, and I can attest that CU academics are not THAT brutal, nothing like the guy on the first page wrote. And while they aren't mindlessly easy they are nowhere close to brutal in my experience.

Pacademics guy from the front page is right about one thing though, and that is at a bigger public school if you don't have good discipline to keep some focus on school you will struggle, though I'd argue that's common sense

During expansion, PAC12 HQ wanted Cu and Utah because of the size of the SLC and Denver TV markets, but the PAC12 schools didn't want any red states and favored UC Davis and UC Irvine because of the huge TV markets in Sacramento and Orange County. They know that in 5 years time with preps knowing they would face the best, UCD & UCI could easily buildup football and b-ball up to Top 25 TV clique standards. Now with dissolution of the NCAA on the horizon, UCSB, UCSD, UCD, and UCI have a chance to level the playing field in college sports.

Like athletics, CU academics are simply he best in the nation. CU is a key member of the national reseach consortium. CU grads have long been key faculty, management, and reseach staff at top national energy, space, medical, environmental, intelligence, and defense labs located in places such as U of Washington, UCLA, Stanford, Arizona St, UC San Diego, Utah, UCSB, ...

Hurysz ran 8:01 that year if I recall. His HS times were also "blue-chip" worthy. 8:49, 4:04, 1:52

I don't know these buff guys personally but theyre fun to watch run. The one "mediocre" kid, 15th at prenats, was 9th at Pac 12s! Look how many of these "elite" recruits (stanford, oregon, etc) he's trashing.

Agree. But, as much as I respect Wetmore, I do think that living and training at altitude is an enormous advantage.

It's not a coincidence that the top 2 teams in the country, NAU and U Colorado, both train at altitude (6,950 and 5,400 feet, respectively).
