Much, much more important. Indoors is tons of fun, but it's a show, a circus. And usually a heck of a party, too. For someone young and promising like Cain, skipping a meet like this because of a concern about making a small injury a large one is without doubt the right move.

Unimportant? It's a world championship meet against the best 1500m runner in almost 20 years. How much more important does it get?

If it's a calf tear, racing on it could put her out for months. I had a pretty mild tear and still get occasional pain from it over a year later; you don't want to risk that for something as unimportant as indoor worlds.
it's not a calf tear. it's nothing, which the mri showed. why do you feel the need to make this up?

-Olympics
-Outdoor worlds
-Record setting
---Getting crushed by Dibaba at indoor worlds

that's a google search for 'calf pain negative mri'
came up with an endless stream of painful conditions with negative MRIs.
can we stop this train of thought?

The real question here, is how does a teenager get injured? Her tendons should be loose and springy.
So no teenagers have ever been injured to your knowledge? LMAO.

Winning is meaningless if the competition is not strong. Right now the competition is the strongest it has ever been since Cain was born. This chance may never come again for her. Most of the best in the world have decided to show up for this meet. Therefore it is no less of a meet than the Olympics or outdoor worlds.

did you even bother to click on some of the links? every single one of them involves facts such as "i fell down a flight of stairs," "i have sciatic nerve issues," "my earlier mri showed inflammation and a bone bruise," "i have severe back pain but my BACK mri came back negative" or "i suffer from extreme fatigue but my BRAIN mri came back negative."
can we stop with the willful blindness? perhaps an mri of your brain will show you suffer from an acute case of head-in-the-sand. if the mri showed nothing, guess what? she's NOT injured.

Salazar doesn't want to be the coach who ruined Mary Cain. That's why pulling out because of injury is credible and the doping allegations are complete nonsense.
Hey moran, your rationality is not welcome in this cesspool of a message board.
I'm not sure how MC's contract works, but doesn't nike only pay their athletes if they actually run at worlds? Not if they make the team... Seems that even if you're somewhat injured you still show up and attempt to run in the prelims to get paid. Didnt an American do that last year in the marothon? Plus what is she saving herself for? She tries and runs and maybe drops out, but there is no major championships outdoors so seems like u would see how you you feel race day. It's only Monday, meet doesn't start for 5 more days

If she were to go there and "make a lame effort" as you suggest she would be blasted for not giving the next qualifier a chance.
She is to be commended, if she thinks she is most likely not going to be able to run, and give hence give the other athlete more chance to prepare for the event.
My guess is this way she can rest up, keep training (without the intensity) and get started on the outdoor training cycle on schedule.
maybe that's just it Alberto knows she has no chance of beating Dibaba or Aregwai so they decided that it wouldn't be worth it to have her race them if she wasn't 100% healthy

anybody else thinking that this might have something to do with centro maybe testing positive?
More likely to have something to do with Salazar messing with her form.
Dibaba isn't running the 1500...so you can't say that Cain is dodging anything. She's up against aregawi though
If she's not doping, she has aligned herself with some questionable people. All the speculation has to be stressful. If a 16-year-old from Tunisia or Turkey ran 4:04 last year, this board would have gone berserk.
OK so centro's out, cain's out, and now ritz is too...

Idiot! - there is a major world championship outdoors this summer. It is World Juniors, and this is what Cain should be focusing on this year - it is in her home country (Eugene to be exact). Indoors is just a sideline, prep for outdoors for her anyway. If she is in anyway injured then don't risk Juniors for this. She has lots of Senior championships in her future (hopefully), but this is her only shot at winning juniors, since she didn't do world youth last year (did world seniors instead), and didn't medal at world juniors two years ago. There isn't a junior title for indoors.
This is probably the dumbest thread I have ever read. All these conspiracy theories. Go back to getting us to believe 9/11 was an inside job and the sandy hook school shooting was made up by the government.
Ok, we'll what's better, winning a senior world championship medal or winning a junior medal? Pretty sure you get paid for senior medals, unless nike put in junior champs medal bonus in her contract. Anyways, Iaaf world indoors is more important than junior worlds when you've been a world senior finalist in your career... Idiot. All I'm saying is it's disappointing she isn't racing because she has a sore calf And the meet is still 4 days out.
