How long to go from 150 to 140 lbs?

Some of you have some very strange diets. How do you run w/o carbs? As someone already wrote, a trwditional kenyan's diet is 75% carbs. They operate in a net caloric deicit but have the energy to continue to train hard because of the carbs. They are also skinny as hell.

Just because there is a book about something doesn't mean it's the best way or even healthy. Don't be naive.

I'm basically in an identical boat with the OP (though I'd be happy with 150->145, 5'11").

I kept a diet journal today and want some input if my calculations are correct and if anything seems unusual. (fwiw, I found that keeping a journal on it's own is a good way to stay conscious about what you're consuming)

Today: ~1852cal, carbs: ~130g, protein: ~175g

5 well-spaced meals over the course of the day.

And I ran twice 7mi @ 7pace in the AM and 5 @ 7:30pace in the PM.

By some of the calculations of an earlier poster:: I'm at a 52cal maintenance surplus (1852 - 1800) (1800 being = 12*150current weight)) plus the exercised calories 1320(12*110) results in a 1268 deficit which should mean I should weigh 2.5lbs (1268/500) less tomorrow morning...? (give or take for water intake).

2.5lbs would seem odd because it's not like I was especially hungry at any point during the day (yes, ok, everyone is different). Thanks for any input.

Well I'm still at about a 500 calorie deficit, and the treats keep me from going insane, so I'd say they are actually helping me quite a bit.

1 pound = 3500 calories, not 500. That said, you are in a pretty severe deficit. How long have you been keeping this up? I would bump to at least 2300 if I were you.

I'm in a very similar situation... gained a bunch of weight while injured and was hovering around 150 for a few months. Since last weekend though, I've been trying to get back to my weight during summer training which was 141. To do this, I've cut out the junk food and structured my eating habits. Small breakfast, sacked lunch at school, normal dinner, and a protein shake after working out. Ive already dropped about five pounds. On top of that, I don't even feel hungry or unhealthy on this "diet". It's just a matter of not eating hot pockets, Oreos, and all that other crap whenever I want. Basically you just have to be strict about how much/how often you eat. That alone should make a big difference.

2. after a few weeks of calorie restriction it becomes harder to loss weight because the body adapts to it. Mix things up by cycling your calorie count. Instead of -500 cal. deficit a day, do something like -300, -500, -100, 0,etc... so that the weekly total adds up to a -3500 cal deficit.

3. You should have high, med, and low carb days and time the high carb days the day before long runs and probably right after the run.

Update...last Saturday I took a "before" pic, and I plan on taking another one every Saturday to assess visible progress. Today's pic is not particularly encouraging. The only difference between last week and this week is that my rib cage is now visible. My "gut" has not diminished at all, and in fact it now looks even bigger compared to my now slightly emaciated chest. But everyone always says the abdominal fat is the last to go, right?

Weight this morning was 145. Lots of water weight lost, probably not much fat.

142.5 this morning. Already starting to feel more nimble on runs. This is turning out to be pretty easy. Settled on 2250 cals/day. As long as I hit minimum targets for protein and fat, plus some fruits/veggies, I fill the remaining cals with whatever I want. Been eating about 300g of carbs every day including pop tarts and ice cream most days. This is why counting calories is the way to go. Takes all the guesswork out of it.

Most of the calories in ice cream are from fat.

For the brand I have one serving = 3g protein, 3g fat, 15g carbs. Anyway, doesn't matter. I eat it. It's delicious.
