Sources have told me that Old Man Greathouse will surprise this season. Nearing retirement age, the wily old cat has got nothing to lose and will no doubt leave all the strength his rickety bones can muster on the course come the SOCON meAt.

I've heard that Greathouse has decided this will be his last season and he will be retiring from cross country at the end of this season. It's probably a good thing though because the NCAA is attempting to bring charges on him for exchanging otphj for money.
Sinor for individual win.
Sinor has been favored to win since his freshmen yet has failed to capitalize because of all the wild women, the wild women and the rippin and the tearin. This year he has settled down and may finally reach his potential as podium placer #bottomsup
Grace Tinkey has decided not to run at Air Force and will be attending Furman this fall. So Furman just picked up a 3 x Footlocker finalist to add to their women's class.
Is Elon a lock for the women's title this year?

I will go out on a limb and say that after this upcoming year I don't think Davidson will be much of a factor in the Southern Conference for at least a few years.
I will go out on a limb and say that is true since Davidson will be in the Atlantic 10 after this year.
Since the new coaching staff arrived, Furman has recruited some of the best talent in the country. It's amazing what you can do when you finally have a coach willing to recruit outside of South Carolina. They had talent land in their laps for years, but not enough to win. It appears the men's race will be wide-open this year unless UNCG decides to recruit Kenya again.
Furman time trial...top three runners, all freshman.
Ches and Montoya I understand, but Leingang I don't. He's a great runner, but not significantly different (or better) than Baker according to times. Also, I think that Baker beat him in the only head-to-head this year.
Baker's a damn good runner.
I have mild dyslexia. Every time I see this thread I see "SOCOM" and think "Why are they talking about Metal Gear still?" But then I reread it and realize that's not what you are talking about and am all, Wow! I'm an idiot!"
Elon and UNCG will win each gender easily this year, but Furman is coming. Brickell (2-time Footlocker) redshirts and another great class will have them poised for top-10 at NCAA in a couple years. More impressive is Furman Elite solid group within a year!

Looking at UNCG's athletic page, their roster appears the same as last year(with the addition of several 4:40 milers). Any chance they could lose again this season despite going 1-2 and having Kemboi in the top 10? Furman's pack looks good! Any other team's showing any promise to sneak into contention? I'm lookin' at you, Wofford!
I heard the AD didn't like the old coach bringing in foreign kids. Look for the kenyan pipeline to dry up now that he's gone.
Should be fun to watch. Furman is young but has a lot of freshman talent. No one can beat UNCG top two guys. So can UNCG find a 4-5 runner? Last year they went 3 in the top 10 and finished 3rd! Then there is the question: what does everyone's favorite team app state have?!?! It will be a close finish
Furman Invitational.
Baker, Sorrells, Reeder all great runners...it's yet to be seen how well they race. Freshies need to learn the strategy of college racing. They were held back at the W Carolina meet. Look for them to be unleashed "like the hounds of hell"
Furman may very well be an NCAA-qualifying team in another year to two, but they won't be close to winning even SOCON this year. I am guessing that this weekend will be their first race over 5k ever. Brickell is hurt too. 2nd stress fracture from late spring has led to red shirting.
Womens side will see Elon dominate. They will have all scores inside the top 15.
Furman put 5 in front of WCUs Travis Alfaro.... He will beat all of APPs guys....So Furman might have a shot!
Love SOCON. Will miss Appie wrote:

So then who will be beating Furman's Men. Just curious since you seem to be so in the know, and don't say UNCG because they did nothing in the off season to improve their team. NO new Kenyans!
So...pretty quick times at Furman this morning
