The saddest part about this board is that a great interview with Canova was posted and some of the things he says in it are really eye opening and you get to see the future of marathon running and training.

Yet the only important things in some idiots minds...is drug use.

Well continue to believe that, while the Africans run clean and sweep the medals, while you all focus on the latest chemicals available.

I think most people agree with coach Canova and his philosophy.

If 5.3% of teenage girls in the US have used steroids then 94.7% haven't. So no, I have no trouble believing there are still people who believe in moral values. But I have a lot of trouble believing that they ALL of those people live in Kenya or that there are no Kenyans who have less than ideal moral values.

We read that corruption is a major economic problem in Africa. We've read for years that the Kenyan Federation is crawling with corruption. That doesn't mean that all Africans or Kenyans are corrupt. I suspect most aren't. But saying that NO Kenyan athlete would use drugs is as hard to believe as saying that no American or New Zealander would use drugs.

We know that you go back and forth between Europe and Kenya frequently. How can you know what your athletes are doing when you aren't with them? Every coach I know in any sport has to deal with issues involving athletes who don't follow team rules when they're out of the coach's presence. Seriously, how do you deal with that?

Anybody who believes that no Kenyan or Ethiopian runner, including a multi-millionaire multiple WR holder has ever taken PEDs is beyond naive.

Let me pose a question.

How many elite Kenyan and Ethiopian runners have used drugs?

Can anyone name them?

This is so true. I know of a coach who is one of the most outspoken opponents of drugs. One of his athletes got caught. I can tell you first hand that the coach did not know about it and was extremely upset about how it reflected on him. Sometimes athletes will do it on their own without the coach knowing. At most as a coach you're with your athletes a few hours a day. You can't possibly know all that is going on with them.

I can remember when Densimo held the Marathon record not too long ago for 11 years. Then by some miracle in a short period of time there was a ton of runners destroying his time. Some do it without cheating, I'm sure. But training philosophies did not change drastically from that part of the world at the time nor did the prize money situation. So what did change? It kind of leaves you wondering doesn't it?

If AICAR/GW1516 is so unproven why have there been numerous cases of cycling drug controls finding these drugs in major professional cycling teams and banning them?

These chemicals are to be taken orally and are easy to hide from coaches, etc.

In 1977 I was talking with Lydiard about the East Germans and the drug rumors that surrounded them. The East Germans were huge fans of Lydiard training and had brought him to East Germany once or twice. Arthur told me he was sure that the East Germans didn't use anything illegal, that the reason they ran so well was that they used his training systematically and therefore were more successful because they were better trained.

I know he sincerely believed that to be the case. We all know how that turned out. The only coach I can think of who might be able to vouch completely for what his athletes did all of the time might have been a guy like Nakamura who had his athletes living with him and even then, well, how many parents of the 5.3% of US girls who've used steroids likely know that their daughters used steroids?

Do you think Lydiard could have vouched for Snell?

Is that 5.3% a good figure? I suspect it's vastly overestimating the number of girls who use steroids. Care to post where you got it from?

That is because the trolling type of posting is encouraged by Wejo, as he feels it is better than having registration for the forum. I don't agree with him. I would rather see that we can have required registration with one nickname only, or a split forum with 1/2 being required registration the other 1/2 for the trolls.

It is time to bring the forum into the 21st century, so we can block troll posters, and OPs can ban them from threads. Also we can have subscriptions of threads, friends lists, post histories, private messages, all of which can increase and better our communications.

I got the number from another post on this thread. I have no idea how good or bad a figure it is. But even if only 5.3 teenage girls in the US have used steroids rather than 5.3% of them, I doubt that the majority of their parents, all 5.4 of them, know that their daughters are using steroids.

Actually, I'm not a drug believer. Like Renato, I'm a gene believer.

It's pretty clear no one can compete with the Kenyans and or East Africans in the Marathon, even with drugs.

The days when a doped Italian can win Olympic Gold are long gone as well.

What I don't buy is Kenyans win because they just train harder, and are mentally tougher, more disciplined etc.

That's insulting to so many of Americans who train so hard, for so many years, for so little.

OK, genius, please tell us whose hand is feeding us? If you're talking about Canova, then you're the one who should STFU because you're a moron. Plus, even if you think Canova provides interesting posts, does that mean, for you, that everything he says is irrefutable? If so, then you've created a god for yourself. Intelligent people such as myself look at Canova and think he doth protest too much, although that doesn't mean he's not telling the truth.
