this is completely unexpected after a very disappointing start to her professional career but this makes her entire career, the first American woman to win gold in the distances at worlds since the first go around in 1983 (Decker's double)? and don't forget that falls have been the bane of the women's 1500m now for years. While Jamal and Uceny were the favorites, falls have taken out major figures in each of the past few women's championships. Remember what happened in Berlin? Simpson stayed on her feet and beat everyone. That's how you define your champion. (props to Jesse Williams, the gold medalist in the high jump as well)

I can hardly wait to see Rojo does his Johnny Cochran imitation and show us the video tape on how Jenny willed Morgan to fall and show, beyond a shadow of doubt, that she should be DQ'd.

First, great win for Simpson--she earned every bit of it. Good for her.

Second, great exhibition of honor from Uceny--she got up, kept running, and finished the race. Good for her.

Did anyone else think it was strange how she took off her shoes and was holding them with the flag? seemed like kind of shameless promotion of NB. Warranted, I guess, since they pay her big bucks. But it still struck me as a little odd.

Uceny was fit no doubt and who knows what would have happened, but in tactically slow races, knowing what position to be in to avoid a fall is a major part of the race. Uceny got boxed in and had nowhere to go when the woman in front of her fell. Barringer ran on the outside for most of the race and was in perfect position coming off the final bend.

She took her effing shoes off. It had nothing to do with "shameless promotion." Maybe she should have asked someone to carry them for her so that she didn't soil the flag with her shoes!

Or maybe her NB shoes hurt her feet so she had to take them off? ,) Seriously, she's not the first person to get out of her spikes right away.

Anyhow, huge congrats to Jenny S. She really did the US proud. After a tough last year coming back from injury, she showed a lot of guts, and was smart in picking her event this year. It was great seeing her healthy with that big kick at the end like she used to do in college.

I'm also sorry for Uceny, who has done everything right this season and got some undeserved bad luck. I am proud of her for getting up and finishing the race. She did the US proud also. I expect great things from her to close out the Diamond League.

Sure it sucks for the runners who fell, but it didn't look like Simpson did it, so you should really keep your bitter comments to yourself. Staying out of trouble is (a difficult and sometimes unfair) part of the race.

Jamal looked like there was a hitch in her leg right around the bell and after that she just couldn't keep up. She was injured earlier in the season so I assume something happened to her during the race.
