I'm still upset about this. As a Ravens fan, I think the Steelers are a better team, but the Ravens over the years and especially this year just lose games and beat themselves. Their secondary is terrible, aside from Reed, but they should have beaten Atl, but Ryan drove the field in a minute and a few weeks ago against Pit, the Ravens had the game in Baltimore.
And about the rivalry. Watch the three games the Ravens and Steelers played in 2008-09 including the AFC championship game. Damn good football. Ravens lost by like 13 points combined in three games.

2 serious questions:
#1 Why are they referred as being black and gold when they are black and yellow?
#2 What is the deal with the terrible towel? It looks more like a pee stained baby binki. How is something so childish looking suppose to be terrible?
Interesting how the Ravens were #1 in the league in pass defense while Reed was recovering. The second he comes back they start dropping.
They need to spend some picks on the secondary and the O line. The rest of the team is set.

1)All of Pittsburgh's pro sports teams use variations of black and gold, which are the colors of the city flag. The "gold" that the Steelers currently use is not technically "gold" and, as you said, closer to yellow. However, their third jersey is a bit closer to gold. The "Black and Gold" name, however, started back when the team really did use true gold as a color, and has stuck because of the identity it shares with the rest of the city.
2) The Terrible Towel was started sometime in the 70's by the late announcer Myron Cope. Proceeds from sales of the towel and related products go to a school for the mentally and physically disabled, so this helps its appeal. The towel is also one of the first so-called "rally towels" so it is a point of pride for the organization and its fans.

The towel tradition started in the 70's when the Stillers became a dynasty, and now the proceeds go to charity so there's added meaning. Not least of all, the towel is great for cleaning up beer and for wiping snow and rain off yer seat at Heinz Field. People bring them to Pirates, Penguins, and Pitt games because the teams' colors are all variations of Pittsburgh black and gold.
If someone tells you they're a Stillers fan, and they don't own a Terrible Towel, or like five Terrible Towels, their claim may be somewhat questionable.
