Due to the misdirection of the offense he currently plays in, he gets almost exclusive 1-on-1 coverage for his receivers. Not to mention that Auburn has a top 5 offensive line, and he is often just sitting in the pocket with no pressure. He is far from 'battle-tested' in those regards.
However, he has a big arm, great mobility, and he's 6'6" 250.

Reading blocks after the snap (which is what an RB does) and getting up to the line and reading a defense (and calling an audible if necessary) are two totally different things. An NFL defense gives you different looks all the way to the snap of the ball, if he waits until the ball is in his hands until he makes a decision he will spend most of the game either on his back or chasing the defense back down the field when he has given them the ball.
+1. The #1 passer rating argument is horribly misleading. His rating is a function of how great of runner he is and how good the overall AU running attack is. They run the ball a few times, they force defenses to bring upwards of 10 guys to stop the run. Then Newton steps back for a pass and someone is wide open. Of course he is going to have a high passer rating. Take it for what it is. It indicates he is a great QB. But to cite the the passer rating to claim he is a better passer than Luck, and then argue he is also a better runner than Luck on top of that, is double counting what Newton should get credit for. He is nowhere close to Luck's ability to read and breakdown defenses and deliver the ball to the right place. Also, Brady Leaf did not have nearly the speed of JeMarcus Russell.

Newton needs to be a full back at the pro level. He has the ability to handle that. He needs to accept a role as a blocker for the QB and then run when he is give the play.
Newton could be quit successful as a full back. He'll get to play. I think he could have several 1,000+ yard seasons with 10+ TDs as well.
As a QB Newton won't be able to manage the playbook. That requires intensive studying. That is not in Newton's future.
I see him more as a tight end. If he has good hands. Its possible he could become a great NFL QB. Its actually not known whether he can read defenses well or not because most of the time he doesn't even try. Many of the Auburn plays are essentially wildcat plays with him running the ball.

Fullbacks rarely get a chance to run the ball in modern NFL offenses. Almost purely blocking backs these days.
Newton is about as sharp as a bowling ball.

A lot depends on who drafts him and if he works hard (see Jamarcus Russell).
I'll state right now that I do not think Newton will be the best QB in the NFL 5 years from now. He will have to surpass Brady and Manning (might be retired by then) along with Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Sam Bradford (pretty darn good rookie season).
If he leaves after this year, he will be bucking a trend: Few QBs who have 1 season of playing experience do well. Matt Cassell is a freak in that regard, but he also was around the NFL for several years (and learning from great coaches) for several years. Not sure Newton has that sort of patience.

I think he would do well to get picked up by the Colts or Pats late in the first round. He can learn under the Manning or Brady school and develop into an impressive NFL QB who can read defenses
Not a fullback in the traditional sense. Newton could be a blocking fullback, a running back, or switch to a second tight end or a short range wide receiver.
The value of someone like Newton is he could be a great multi-option fullback. A new look that would certainly throw defense for a loop. He would open things up for his teammates because defenses would have to prepare for several different play possibilities.

He should be a cautionary tale indicating that having the physical talent doesn't guarantee NFL success.
Yes, which is why Newton needs to be converted to something other than a QB.
Jake Locker will be a better NFL QB than Cam Newton will.

As mentioned several times in this thread:
JaMarcus Russell had around 150 yards rushing his senior year, Newton has around 1,500. They are two totally different beast. But you can go ahead and spout of more impressive logic if you would like to impress us all.
He won the Heisman Trophy. That automatically should tell you that he's going to be a mediocre QB at best in the NFL.
Reggie Bush ran for 1700 yards, caught passes for nearly 500 yards. Newton's 1500 yards is meaningless. He wants to be a QB not and RB. QB is not in his future. He can't handle it mentally.
