The main reason I dont like the idea is yet Again it is implying somewhat that people dont care about track and there are tons of football players who could beat the best runner in their school whenever they felt like it. This is simply not the case. As i said yesterday, and will continue to say, track is the #2 sport in the nation(and it is gaining on football)- there are a ton of people that do track - most of those fast people are in fact running track

That's not what he's saying. It doesn't matter ir the kid is a better soccer player than runner or his niche is in basketball... he still could be a 4:20 miles. Definitely a 4:20 miler at every school.

One thing that always irritates me is that during track season anyone who seems to be able to break 14 in the 100 gets put into sprints. Everyone who is slow as crap gets put into distance because they think oh you can get endurance and get good. The fact is that if a kid can't run a 100 any faster than 15 seconds he isn't going to be a good runner. I would like to have a lot of the "fast" guys on the team run distance.

Since he was a wrestler, too, I'm sure that his mom was probably used to it. The guy most likely cut down at least 15 lbs at the start of each wrestling season and cut weight (~10 lbs, obviously water weight) for tournaments and meets at least once a week...

Hey dudes, I don't do these postings at all, but this one seemeed pretty interesting.
To me, this whole speed/strength vs. endurance depends on the individual, and the situation, and probably other specific factors (motivational/ psychological, etc) within that individual. I guy that I ran with in college ran 47.8 for the 400 and was All-American in the 4 X 400, however then, after college ran a 2:14 marathon, bordering on world class in that entirely different event. Absolutely different Skill sets, it would seem. Another dude on my team who couldn't break 4:35 for the mile, yet finished 6th in the NCAA National cross country championships 10,000 meters one year. Totally different situation. Third guy, who was on my racing team after college, apparently was a soccer goalkeeper at College, started running more after college, again different skills, but went on to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials on a number of occasions. And lastly myself, who ran a 4:03 mile, yet couldn't run under 2:40 for the marathon.
Everybody's different, however, in summary, it seems that people with leg speed, have an advantage. You can develop endurance to some degree, but it's much more difficult to speed up a slow twitch person.
In the article he obviously has only seen without limits because he says the words "I dont race to see whos the fastest I race to see who has the most guts" very original.

Cut the kid some slack. He's just figuring himself out. He tried football and track, but obviously, he's settled on a career in the NBA.
