Maybe I have this backwards but all you mention is how a man has to impress a girl...buying dinner etc. What does the girl have to do or is expected to do to impress a man?

Personally, I just finished my doctorate and today I should get my first full on paycheck!! yipee!! But I see it and have seen it for awhile (probably since finishing my coursework) that a girl has to impress me to earn the lifestyle I have to offer her. I just turned down a marriage proposal after living with the girl for 3 years because although she was nice to live with...I could not see "giving her access" to my NEW lifestyle (poor student to soon well to be off Dr.) as she has not impressed me THAT much.

So what is a girl expected to do to impress a guy?

Let me think about what my wife did to "impress" me enough to want to marry her.

First of all, she is hot. Now that will only last so long, so there needs to be more there.

She is extremely nice. She is a caring person, by nature. Not just to me, but to everyone. It is nice to be around caring people.

She takes care of herself. This is important to me. She is the type that knows the difference between eating healthy and being anorexic. She works out every day. She stays clear of processed foods...

She reads a lot. She puts me to shame and I consider myself a pretty big reader.

She cares about quality. My wife does not have a lot of clothes, shoes, etc. But what she does own is very high quality. I like this, and this has influenced the way I participate as a consumer.

She is modest. Obviously this is a plus in company, but I am talking about at home as well. She is not a prude, but she keeps me wanting more, even after 14 years of marriage. This is hard to describe, b/c it sounds like a negative, but in reality it is incredibly hot.

She is a great mother. The best. I did not know this until after we married, but the writing was on the wall.

I am sure I could go on and on, but this is how she impressed me. We dated for 6 years before getting married, and I never regret my decision. I thank my lucky stars that I have her, so spending a few hundred bucks on a big night out is nothing. The least I can do.

get in a rut with work/family and cowed by a shitty economy and it's easy to lose sight that ya gotta live a little and show her she's worth it...definitely pays off for the two of you.

Thanks for the suggestions. My lifestyle has changed since I sold my place a few years ago and left a corporate job for something more low key. I don't like to generalize but I'd have to agree with the comment someone made that most women (esp. the more attractive ones)will tend to go after men with earning power, frugal or not.

I would imagine a girl needs to be taken out somewhere nice, thoughtful, as if she is something special. If you are playing the field, you won't have time to give each one that "special" time. No special time means they aren't special, so the women guesses.

You could give each special time, but that would surely have you running ragged. As long as you play it one at a time, you will be fine.

THANK YOU. I prefer women who I can treat as an equal, but I also have no problem with women being outright whores. Just don't apologize for it.

Young dudes: ignore this. The sexual marketplace has changed radically since our fathers and grandfathers' times, especially in urban areas. Learn from your friends who are very successful with women. Do they spend lots of money on their girls to try to make them feel special? Of course not. They stay in control of the relationship, take care of their own needs first, and use cheap spontaneous romantic gestures rather than expensive planned ones.

I agree with you, but don't fool yourself into believing the Warren Buffet fairy tales. The man spends an assload of money. He is considered frugal for someone who could never run out of money, but his spending would put even the high-rollers on LetsRun to shame.

Believe me, he takes his wife to dinner at French Laundry. He buys her nice cars. He might still have his first car but he has someone else drive him around 75% of the time.

An old girlfriend of mine lives in Omaha and said he is the nicest guy she ever met, but also had stories of his lavishing of money on various local businesses, etc. I think it is a good thing, don't get me wrong...

People should use their money for what they think is important. To many, spending money on loved ones is the most important thing they could do. I happen to agree. I don't buy stupid crap, but i do buy nice things for my kids.

The key is to find a woman who doesn't care about money and then spoil her rotten!

Frugality is relative. If I take my girlfriend to a restaurant, and pay 50 dollars for our two meals, that's different than someone living paycheck to paycheck on a minimum wage job doing the same thing, and it's also different than my friend making six figures out of business school doing the same thing.

Frugality is for when you're young and don't have money to spend. Shelling out money for hot young things like you is what you do when you're older and have money to spend.

No you're talking about who she is...not what she did to impress you. This thread seems to be about initial date/s type of stuff...Of course you should see all you listed in her if she is your wife...MAKE SURE she knows you notice all this in her! :)

To the dumbass posting about "lavish lifestyle"...Who said lavish? When you critique someone make sure you know what they are talking about. And you can't make money with a Doctorate??? My friend went into FAMILY PRACTICE...generally the lowest paying of the professions and 3yrs later she is at 220 per year with no debt and owns her own house. She is an outdoors (mountain sports, + her running) type of person like I am which requires about or less than 1 paycheck to fund yearly. So after taxes where does the other 100-130k go? Sits on its ass in the bank!

So guess what...I consider 3 new pair of trainers, new climbing rope, some new biners, new WW paddle, maybe a new river runner, and maybe some new cams pretty lavish! So for less than one paycheck I'm set in everything I want to do until Winter while the rest sits on its ass in the bank! Sounds like if you have everything you could want and a great life you're living pretty lavish!

Also depending on how truthful you want to be, theres a good chance I'm not in HS with a 17min 5k pr like you and the other average "bitch at everyone because you feel bad about your life in the basement of your parents house" lifestyle! Yep I only run 15.09 but I am proud of it! I know you "really" run 14.20 though so you are BETTER THAN ME! Congrats!

You are as dumb as a doornail. A doctorate is not the same as a medical degree- you know that, right? Assuming you pass your state boards, the latter allows you to practice medicine in the United States whereas the former does not.

You've just finished course work for your doctorate degree? My ass!
