It comes from asset protection and protection of your personal life. As you've witnessed here, it's pretty easy to expose if you own it in your own name. There are far more wealthy people in California who are interested in protecting their money, which is why so many of them own in trusts or investment real estate in LLC's. What I mean is they know it's not just about aquiring wealth or an asset but keeping it. Owning a home in your own name puts you at risk to losing it. And if your home is your biggest investment/asset/money sucker than you have a lot to lose.

I wouldn't want to live in a house like that.

A bench player in the NBA can make 5 million/yr, but two of the better USA runners over the last several years can't make a combined income typical of the average lawyer, stock broker or CPA? Who do you think buys these houses?

Um...average lawyer? How many lawyers do you know? The vast majority of my law school classmates make less than what teachers in my area do with far more debt. Just saying.

Beautiful home probably not my cup of tea as in I am happy and make do with what I have. As long as my family is healthy fed and happy I am doing a good job. Also if you are trying to sell your house how about avoiding the pop-up style website that is sort of like a virus as in you cant exit, that is always a nice catch!!! Sure you will wind up selling it for $70,000 in this economy with that sort of real estate approach...

You can't even move into my neighborhood for $800K. That house would be over $1.5 million where I live in Arlington, VA. My house isn't as nice but it's worth more. So BigLaw >>>$$$ Professional Running. But they probably have more fun.
