could bolt hold the 100, 200, 400 and 800 world records at the same time within the next 3 years?

After MJ set the world record he didn't even look tired. I've never seen anyone run as mechanically as he did. One of the all time greats for sure. He had WAY more strength than Bolt does right now. He did stuff like 1000s and 500s and 600s and 350s, and 200s with short recovery and cross country running all of which I HIGHLY doubt Bolt is prepared to do.

The record is his for the taking however. He has the potential to break 43. But I don't think he's done the work to come off the last turn strong and run the last 100m well enough-he looks relaxed at 20 second/200m pace but his big body uses a lot of energy getting around the track which takes its toll in the last 10 seconds of the race.

And Bolt running the 800 is a f***ing joke. Look at the builds of the top 10 all time list at 800m.

i think it is unlikely that he will do the 800 in a competition ever and i asked the original question. my original question though was, if he breaks the record in the 400 after only a few tries at it then what. he proves his coaches wrong, originally they wanted him to focus on 400 while racing 200s also. he does not want to do this and instead becomes some kind of freak in the 100 and 200 after alot of people said he was too tall to be a serious 100 runner. after he gains fame for the 100 and 200 people then begin to say he is a power runner and a speed sprinter and he should'nt consider the 400 he is better suited for the 200 and then does something rediculous in a 4x4 last weekend.

here is another question. who would be a better 600 runner, michael johnson or wilson kipketer? were either capable of that record. i dont know when it is even contested. indoors maybe?

the title of the thread was to lure the wariner should be an 800 people into the discussion. like i said i really dont think bolt will ever race an 800 but its definitely something to wonder about and i do think wariner could be a better 800 runner than he is at 200 but that will probably never happen either.

4:16 high school milers typically have sub 50 quarter speed and you say that Geb, one of the great kickers of all time AND a 3:32 indoor 1500m runner, did not have that???? crazy.

Uh... look at the builds of the top 10 all time list at 100m and you'll quickly see that Bolt doesn't look like them either!!

I agree he can't set the 800m WR while training strictly as a short sprinter, but give him a couple years of 400m training and then the 800m jump won't be so unbelievable... He could do it. Given the mind-bogglingly impossible feats he's already accomplished it would be foolish to believe otherwise about the man.

If bolt trained for it I'm sure he could run in the 1.44 range or a little faster also. World record is another matter. He might be able to but I don't think he will try.

I was going to say that. You stole my thunder. Remember when I ran a 49 second quarter as a freshman and a 47 second split in a 4x4 when I was only in 3:53 shape in high school. Geb would have mauled me in a quarter. My coach said I was a power sprinter because I ran 49 as a frosh. I figured the mile and 2 mile was where all the fame would come from so I picked the mile instead.

He may not have broken 45 yet in the open 400, but he ran 45.3 at age 16. I wouldn't put it past him to run a 43-low in a serious effort.

Yes he has the body for the 100, 200, 300, and 400 but after that he will collapse at the 550 yards mark. He needs to loose at least 15 to 20 pounds and do a lot of strenght work before tackling the 800. Of course the guy is phenomenal but not superman.

which he might be able to do. He's bulked up a lot the past few years with his maturity and focus on the 100. Look at pics/vids of him as a 16 year old, and he easily looks 20 pounds lighter.

And he already had 20.0 and 45.3 speed back then. Can he be a great 800 meter runner? I have no idea. He might be the type that just can't run hard past about 500-600 meters. But the thought of Bolt being 20 lbs lighter and keeping even just 95% of his speed....if that man was trained for the 800, there could be some incredible potential.

There's been lots of successful 400/800m types because their needs are somewhat similar. Even then those types have typically been more 800m runners who limelight as 400m runners on occasion.

No one has EVER held the 100, 200, and 400m records at the same time. I think someone said Tommie Smith was closest.

The power, strength, and speed required to be a top level 100/200m runner is simply NOT compatible with the endurance needed to be a top 800m runner. Sorry, you can't have both.

The moment he starts trying to train to be a 800m runner he loses a lot of that power, strength and speed. He would never break 1:50.

tristan thomas 1:47.83 for the 800m and is a 400 hurdler (PB 48.68) and has beaten bershawn jackson before.

also bram som isn't the skinniest 800m runner going around and has a PB of 1:43.45, see for yourself (also nick symmonds is a pretty built guy)
