The University of Cincinnati went to a BCS game last year and did not make any money after all of their expenses!!!
Until distance runners unite and speak out and get donors to hold back money to universities, write letter to universities presidents and trustees, get the public involved and make race an issue (as track and field is one of the most diverse programs) this will happen again and again

The school pissed away a ton of money on their "Banknorth Center" a giant WHITE ELEPHANT among the sleeping giant where the ho-hum basketball and hockey teams play.
The reasoning was that these are the school's D-1 Marquis sports. They fired a decent coach and way overpaid an assistant no-name from UCONN. The result hockey still can't consistantly get in the frozen four and the big name Basketball guru can't beat SHU, Mt. ST. Mary's, or The Blue Devils from Central to get the 65th spot in the big dance.
So, meanwhile back on Mt. Carmel Avenue they plan to expand the cafeteria and kick out the student center where all the church groups and various other clubs have their offices.
Now that the Big teams no longer play in the highschool gym at the campus field house (Burt Kahn Court), the only team that calls that place home is Women's V-ball. So, the President (John Lahey) wants to make the gym area the space where all the student clubs have their offices b/c the got kicked out of the student Union.
Why can't the volleyball team play at the banknorth center? Oh, the President does not want volleyball lines painted on the court. But, wait - Gample Pavillion home of the National Champion UCONN Huskies has their volleyball team play on that court (with lines)... The President, Mr. Lahey, considers this an eyesore and won't hear of it! So, lets cut the volleyball team.
Great thinking - now the school will drop a Women's team and open the title IX can of worms.
Personally, I'm not a hater of Volleyball or title IX - obviously it is hurting and putting a strain on the entire athletic dept. However, this does not change the fact that basically:
1) Your AD - "Jack - Mac" is a joke and is largely to blame for this debacle - he has never acted as an advocate or tried to solve problems.
2) Your President is a spoiled brat... Who doesn't care about the needs of students - whether they are scholarship v-ball players or 3-season Runners.
The spoiled Brat and his chief "Yes-man" are going to get rid of v-ball one way or another and do not care who lies in the wake of this madness that has become a full-blown Tsunami.
It also proves that Tuition dollars, Enrollment, and the Economy have nothing to do with any of this. The only people hurt are the kids giving it hell day in and day out that wear the QU logo with pride. They are your future leaders and donors. Job well done - it's good to know that the powers that be are really looking out for the wellfare of the students.
RIP QU Athletics - you may have pretended to make strides for the last 10yrs. as an up and coming D-1 school... You've now gone back to the dark ages. Do yourself a favor and drop University from your name and go back to Division II where you belong...
Obviously, we're seeing that title IX is not the problem here. Rather, it's a scapegoat. I'm disillusioned at all of the comments on here about how "unfair" title IX is. As has been said, it really shows a lack of perspective.
And thumbs-down to wejo for blaming this on Title IX too--"Title IX strikes again"? please. More like "Idiot ADs strike again."
Quinnipic Brave. This explanation couldn't have be more than clear. You hit the nail right on the head. This is Exactly what it is about. A selfish president and an Empty Suit of an A.D. who won't stand up for the student-athletes he is there to serve as it may cost him his overpaid 6 fig. salary.

Even then, there are many teams in the Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10, SEC, ACC, Big East, MWC, WAC that LOSE money on football annually. However, football is the athletic department's tool to keep a huge number of alumni involved with the campus, you aren't going to see too many tailgaters showing up for xc meets and volleyball and soccer games.
Wow. Quinnipiac Brave...being a person on the team I have and knowing all of those aspects of it that was the best explanation of the situation that I have ever heard. A spoiled president all about image who has had more effects on people that dont deserve it than he could have possibly expected, and there is no hope for change even in the distant future.
Look on the bright side loyola(MD) and Dayton have pretty successful xc teams without track teams. You guys can compete in that non-track classic too with all the teams that don't have school sponsored track programs. What will you guys after xc next year? transfer? start a school sponsored track club?
We don't have a track program at hofstra either. The head coach and I have been working on it since I've been here. Highly doubtful that we'd get anything in the next 20 years seeing as our athletic program is going nowhere. The teams that get everything are M and W bball, fball and mens lax. none of our teams did anything special this year. speaking of volleyball, one of the girls at my school told me that every d1 volley ball girl gets a full ride. Something because of they get 10 scholarships or something and cant break them up so they just give 10 girls free rides. I'm running full year round with one championship season and theres crappy girls redshirting who get everything paid for.
On another note. What is this non-track classic that is for teams w/o school sponsored track teams? I'd like to get my school to look into that.
I am from ct and they have the best runner in ct coming in the fall so thats a great move
First off they don't have the best runner from CT going there and who even knows who you're talking about.
Second, how does anyone actually consider this a Title IX agenda? QU has no football team so where does anyone consider that there are more men opportunities than women?
might not be the best but there are some pretty damn good CT runners going there and some pretty damn good CT (and new england) runners there now. It is really unfortunate. the coaching staff spent nearly a decade building a program from scratch, with a training program and everything and the school will not do anything to support it. Really unfortunate...

You will be arrested if you do that. I recommend that you contact all the local media and large media outlets in the country and let them know that they should attend the first home volleyball game since there will be a large protest. Make huge signs...keeping it clean enough for tv, and get every possible student to attend in support. Spread out around the arena and at a precise time all merge together in one area and chant in protest. Have alumni and everyone you can think of attend. The media will eat it up. After only 2 years of existence, the QU volleyball team ended their regular season 7th out of 9 teams. The QU men's outdoor team finished 11th out of 11 teams at the NEC outdoor track championship. Neither should have been dropped by an administration who has wasted so much money on a hockey and men's basketball program, that are not that good anyhow, but the men's outdoor track team members (like this one) should back off taking hits at volleyball's record.
When outdoor's got cut, the men still had 2 other seasons of competition left. When volleyball got cut, those players and coaches lost everything. And anyone who knows anything about QU's administration knows that it was QU's years of wasteful spending that put them in this situation.
its not like the people running at qu care about running any less than any other D1 athletes. Hiding behind a stupid message board name and saying shit like that doesnt help anyone. Grow up.
I'm pretty sure the Title IX issue is not with teams getting cut. We can blame the fact that they have to cut teams on the administration.
The fact that is is indoor track and not women's volleyball getting cut is due to title IX though as far as i can read into it. The Volleyball team was going to sue, and presumably use Title IX as the grounds for their suit. Thus track had to be cut instead.
Its not Title IX's fault that the QU track program does not exist anymore, its the administrations. Its unfortunate that it had to be the sport that we on this site care about that got cut, but it would be equally unfortunate if volleyball got cut.
It's time somebody told you so that you can finally grow up: life isn't fair.
