I don't see any denial in this thread. No one's disputing the talent in DI. It's just sad when the lower end DI guys (and apparently alumni now too) go to message boards and make it seem like the label DI automatically make them superior any DII or DIII runner.
I don't subscribe to T&FN, let alone keep issues from over a decade ago hanging around. One of you asked and you shouldn't have asked if you weren't prepared for an answer that you wouldn't like.

a couple nice performances out of the SUNY conference this weekend a the Sam Howell meet at Princeton:
1. Kyle O'brien(Cortland)- 9:08 steeple
2. Jesse Schneider(NYU)- wins the 10k by 18 seconds in 30:22
Also for those who didn't know, Paul Zdroik of UW-La Crosse has one more season of eligibility and could be a threat in the 1500 and/or 5k.

you're right, my bad. it slipped my mind for some reason. UAA, SUNYAC, whatever. still a good early season performance nonetheless.

So Kosgei has run 14:35 and 9:16 in the 5k and steeple so far, both races running completely alone, and both marks that will likely be on the very edge of making nationals. Obviously there's tons of time left, but I don't understand why he doesn't get in a competitive race where he can get an auto and run up to his abilities. I really get the feeling the coach at Hamilton doesn't know what he's doing with this guy.

And he is obviously not even close to the same fitness level as he was last year or during XC.

how do you know that? he just PR'ed in the mile.
Not even close? He also ran that ridiculous DMR carry. 4:04.6 with a 58 second first quarter on a flat track. It seems more like his coach takes him to all the meets his team is suited for. For a meet like Penn, they made an exception last year. Probably do that again this year and he'll have a NY level race where he'll have someone to push him.

A bunch of the better DIII schools are running at Bucknell this weekend. Should be lots of really fast times out of there
