Spivey better than Webb

Spivey may not have Webb's fast PRs, but he was certainly more consistent, even in his twenties. With Spivey you could always guarantee he would be in either a World Championship or Olympic finals. With Webb you hope he does not go into a funk and not even make the US Olympic team! People don't realize along with his World Championship bronze medal Spivey made 3 Olympic teams. Spivey was a racer and unlike so many other American milers had natural racing instincts. Webb is a time trial runner, while Spivey was a racer. Spivey once stated that he measured his season to be in 3:50 mile condition by the Dream-mile in Europe. Each season there was a distinct consistent goal. In comparison, Webb seems to have a new crazy training routine each year. Remember, Webb's ridiculous 10k that wrecked his entire season in 2006. Today's US distance runners are as fast as the best runners from the 80s, but for some reason the racing instincts are missing. More Americans are running sub 13:20 for the 5000, but still seem unable to medal in major competitions. American distance runners have gotten their speed back, now they have to learn to race. Where is Spivey and Scott when you need them.
