I think there are a lot of neurotic MD runners in the world. They don't know how to take it easy. They just want to go hard all the time. I would called it OCD. Lydiardism is a therapy for such individuals. Often those same individuals need this therapy the most, yet are the ones with the most resistance to it.

Yours is a little more common than mine. What are we arguing about anyway? We like someone a lot and you like someone else more? Who do you like more?

It's not Lydiard I have a problem with. It's those who exaggerate his influence in todays environment and don't care for historical accuracy.

There are probably some fanatical Lydiardists. Everything has its fanatics. My involvement goes no further than the fact I appreciate what he pointed out, what he discovered. This isn't to say others didn't discover the same thing on their own. Clearly the East Africans didn't get the idea from Lydiard.

The thing is if you are against the idea of long running as the base element of middle to long distance running then nothing anyone says will get you to agree with this appraoch.

Is that what you're actually against?

Late news. Lydiard once said that Sim idol Bruce Lee trains like a Lydiard runner. He does 100 miles, long runs and hill workouts on the Lydiard style. Bruce Lee is the first Kung-Fu specialist to be influenced by Lydiard method.

this is funny. Well i do know Bruce Lee's training to some degree and i could detail it for proof, however, this may suffice

Bruce: "The mother of all exercise is running" (He ran 5 miles at least 3 times a week.)

There are just some fundamentals and a good solid aerobic base is one of them.

Test to accept you as a Lydiard non-fanatic and non-fundamentalist.

1 - Let’s consider Lydiard a good coach and Lydiard a good training method, the best in your opinion. But is that perfect ? If Lydiard isn’t perfect, can you name the coaches and what are the training aspect that is done best than the Lydiard one ? Answer with real facts and names, not with excuses.

2 - How many runners or coach names you may reveal that is consider an unsuccessful attempt to train on the Lydiard method ? Please name it. Real examples of major failure of the Lydiard training to fit properly on the runner need.

If you have nothing to say that’s because you are an ignorant or a Lydiard fanatic fundamentalist.

Test to accept you as a Lydiard non-fanatic and non-fundamentalist.

multiple examples: understands Lydiard but doesn´t follow Lydiard blindly.

Note. If you name your own example of failure while you follow the Lydiard method that the reason of your unsuccess that’s not your fault but the imperfection of the Lydiard method you get one extra point.

In an ealier poast you said Peter S never ran faster than 6 minute miles in his build up to Tokyo

but your program outlined above is a little different to that.

What do u suggest is best?
