First part time summer job was as a caddy in 1992. Made $18 ($9 plus $9 tip) on my first loop.

Consulting at one of the aforementioned big 3 firms (actually two if you count a summer position) $120k base + $25k bonus. (Having worked at two of the firms and knowing a lot of people at the other two, I can tell you there isn't much of a difference among them in terms of work or lifestyle.)
Left consulting to go corporate to make $108k plus smaller bonus.
I hated working so much those first several years. The money was nice, but I didn't spend much. My friends made around half of what I made and that was the kind of lifestyle i lived. Consulting wasn't much better.
I'm now in a more "normal" job and there isn't one part of me that longs to be back in i-banking or consulting.

I'm 32, work from home as a Client Support Rep, make 32k a year. This is my first real job and it's great. The company I work for supports mom and pop businesses and it allows me to train whenever I please. The 401k plan is good, I have an FSA of 2500.00 a year (more if I contribute). Plus, I get a paid trip to Vegas once a year for business! If I keep screwing around on the message board, I'm not going to get a raise because it's making me unproductive. I have turned into an internet junkie, but at least I know what's going on in the world!
30K in 1989 as starting environmental scientist.
75K in 2007 as partner/president in own firm. Not getting rich, but not working for the man, and wife makes 65K so we live well in northern Wisconsin.

I'm not sure why people keep bringing this up, do you really think this is an accurate sample of lets run? These people are probably not lying. Instead 90% of the people who are FAST or RICH post what they run or make, and 1% of people who are SLOW or POOR post what they run or make, hence the median or averages are much higher than you'd expect.

No everyone on this board has run at least 14:20 and is training to run 13:40.
$1.40/hr working for my uncle when I was 13. $1.60/hr at the 1st real job I got on my own when I was 16 in the L.A. inner city. The last salaried job I had was $400k nearly 20 years ago. I don't keep track of money anymore, my people do that. I count more important things, like the number of my kids, nieces and nephews I put thru college, etc.
1972 $12k right out of school
2007 $14k Social Security
BS in civil engineering w/ a MS.
I started interning over the summers at $12/hr before going to grad school.
Due to layoffs in my field, looking at a $42k start in development in the Pacific NW. It's about 10k low but I'm happy to actually have an offer.
I guess I should be content with my 5 weeks a year of vacation and a sub 14:30 5k.
Hey, I said I lived in a small rural community close to nothing and that $70K here is good. I know you people from the East Coast can't fathom open land... but in the West there are plenty of "boonies" if you will. In places like Burns, Oregon (100 miles away from the closest town) the wealthiest person makes like $50k annually. It is totally back woods and farming or federal is the only profession. Btw, I do not live in Burns. It's an example.Also, in case you didn't link up another thread to this one... I only work 30 hours a week MAX. So $70k at 3/4 work time (although I hear most of you guys work more than 40 hours in a week which is pathetic, you weren't put on this world to work man!) is the equivelant to $93,333 annually at full time pay. Once again, I'm happy and can spend a lot of time with my family, which is way more important than working all the time and making a lot of money.For those of you who work a lot of hours to make the money... what are your kids names? We know so many unhappy lawyers, most if not all are much happier after leaving the big firm.
If you are single and have no life/interests outside of work, it is OK. Or if you like having a wife and kids at home in a traditional family. But you will forget the names of your kids from time to time.
Administrative in a state agency. I'm required to be in the office under 40 hrs a week and can set my own working hours. Pretty sweet...
