Just wondering what the average starting salary for people is these days? How much did you first start to make, what do you make now, and what do you do?

In 2003, right out of undergrad (Computer Information Systems) I took a crappy $12/hr job that gave me a little OT, working help desk at a small manufacturing company. Went to school at night working on an MBA.
2004 - Same company, got bumped to $16/hr and promoted to System Administrator. Finished the MBA towards the end of the year.
Early 2005 - Took a business systems analyst position that was a cross between system and database administration and reporting at a large entertainment company making $58k+ bonus (total comp around $65k)
Early 2006 - Laid off as a result of a merger and took a 3 month contract to perm job paying me $40/hr with no benefits. Was hired to build automated reporting.
Mid 2006- Hired as a perm at $80k as a Sr. Financial Analyst
Mid 2007 - Promoted to Vice President (boss was fired, took her job) bumped to just over $101k with a 18.75% annual bonus. (~$119k total)
Current - Same job, same pay, up for promo again
Does salary encompass total compensation? For example, when a hiring company asks you your salary, what is the proper response: base salary, or total compensation?
one MILLION dollars

Is that you Dick Cheney? You know you actually have to enter the race to get promoted to President right?
I started out at $7 something an hour working 30 hours a week for the Columbus Dispatch in 1988-1989.
First salaried reporting job was in California in 1989 at the Los Gatos Weekly (also writing for the Campbell and Saratoga weekly papers). Salary then $14,500.
After career changes and stints as a teacher and technical writer, I now consult for companies using ERP and other manufacturing, point of sales, CRM, (and a bunch of other types) software. My focus is in how to implement the product based on their needs (number of servers, configuration, etc.).
I now make way more than $14,500 (won't say how much), but it is almost 20 years later, and I should be.
If you can communicate well (written and spoken) and you can grasp technical terms pretty easily, you can make a decent living.
I graduated 9 months ago. I started off making $85-100k (year end bonus) as an options trader but only made it 5 months before they had a ton of layoffs.
Now I make around $44k depending on overtime as an accountant. Yep, life sucks, and jobs are hard to find.
$44K = Life Sucks?
Man, keep me as far away from your world as possible.
With $44K, I could retire by the time I'm 50. What do you spend your money on?
I worked part-time for 10 months and reported just under $17K last year. Boulder, CO.
Keep you away from my world because I have a negative attitude or... because my version of suck is not bad to you...?
Anways, I dont care too much about salary because my family is rich and I'll end up semi-retiring at age 35 no matter what.
As for what I spend my money on? Nothing really, I'm too cheap to go out to eat or do any real activities. Except for my sweet computer, my 2k tv, my ps3 and xbox 360, and a couple hundred dvds, i don't spend money (serious, not a joke)
