Ten miler around Flathead Lake.
RIP Ryan Shay.
Ten miler around Flathead Lake.
RIP Ryan Shay.
10 miles along the cross county connector. Soft trails, beautiful leaves and the inspiration to move faster.
easy ten miler that started out pretty shitty with a sore achilles but thinking of ryan helped me pull it the f*** together and get it on.
Just finished a 10 miler, mostly on trails, and thought about Ryan most of the way.
It is a beautiful fall day here, about 60 degrees, bright blue cloudless skies with the wind kicking the fallen leaves all around. I came out of the hilly trails at about 8 miles and hit the pavement really flying, for me, and feeling great. I can only imagine what it is like to run in the OT race with a shot to finish top 3. I hope that Ryan felt as good in the 5 miles before his death as I did on my run today. It is that feeling that makes me come back for more trying to be just little bit faster each time. Runners like Ryan are truly an inspiration.
RIP Ryan Shay
just got back from a run with the wife on the lakefront path in chicago. beautiful day here. shay probably never ran a 6 miler that slow in his life, but regardless it was in memory of him. couldn't help but think of all the runs and workouts we did together around south bend during the 4 years he was my captain at ND. he was a inspiration.
Just finished up my 50 minute run. I'm working on coming back from an injury and sometimes running starts to feel like a chore rather than something to enjoy. All that I could think about on my run today was that every single step that I'm able to take is a gift and that I should cherish every second.
I ran a PR over an 8 mile loop thinking of Ryan most of the way. Beautiful day with leaves falling from the trees as I ran by. When I'd get tired, I'd ask Ryan for a little help. My heart rate would slow and it would get a little easier.
just finished up an 18 miler out here in san diego on the beautiful trails of rancho santa fe, a run shay had completed many times while out here training.
cheers ryan!

18 miles this morning, wasn't as tough as it could be, because Ryan Shay was my motivation to ignore the pain! RIP

Knocked out my normal 14 with an additional mile today...cruised most of it at a minute faster per mile than normal, but I felt effortless. Truly a day that makes one appreciate all the blessings he/she has on this Earth.
Thoughts and prayers for the Shay family.

15-miles at Shelby Forest State Park...with thoughts of Shay and his family.
R.I.P. Shay.
14 minutes at 200 lbs. Sorry Guys- it was the best I could do! RIP Ryan!
30 minutes around Notre Dame's Campus. Stopped to light a candle for Ryan at the Grotto. This is such a sad hour for his family, and for American distance running. RIP Ryan Shay.
4 mile tempo run plus a 13 mile run in Wayne, Nebraska...God Bless the Shay family.
With all those people running for Ryan Shay today, I decided to "dedicate" my 16 miles to the nameless recreational runners who have died in marathons over the past years. They too have grieving families and they too left behind an unfinished life's work.
Meanwhile the only response their deaths could elicit on letsrun was a string of rant about how slow, undertrained people shouldn't be allowed to enter maratons.
I'm just sayin...
good for you. you are a truly a gentleman, and all of those nameless runners who passed away must be so happy that you would come here and disrespect other runners like that.
back on topic, i had a great run here thinking of shay.
5K race for THON @ PSU.
Although the race was to raise money FTK (for the Kids) I kept Ryan and his family in my thoughts the entire way.
I raced today at the MSTCA Coaches Invitational at wrentham. I PRed for 5k in under 22 (21:55 previous time 22:15). Our whole team wrote his initials somewhere on us and dediated our races to him. Mine was next to my watch so everytime I looked down I thought of him and pushed harder. RIP Ryan Shay
I ran 11 miles (longest run thus far) in 70:50 for Ryan Shay.
