I give him credit for being a total wanker.
I give him credit for being a total wanker.
he is truth to himself.
Wasted my valuable time for a start.
to those that bash cabada, fine. the issue i have is that very little of what you claim he is wrong for the sport for are even warranted from his videos. if you want to make baseless opinions that's your choice but don't try to back them up by turning around some of what he says into some sort of classless rant.
1. he doesn't put down anyone running the trials he just expresses that, for him, it doesn't make sense to run it if he doesn't have a chance to make the team. right now he feels like he's not where he wants to be and for him personally he doesn't feel like he should be happy to walk away as the 10th place guy or whatever. He knows that for some guys 10th would be phenominal and, if you knew him, you'd probably know that he'd be the first to congratulate a guy like that. He just knows that that's not him and he shouldn't allow himself to be satisfied with those results. Do you think ritz is hoping to be top 10 and do you think he'd race if he could only hope for that? (let's remember that cabada debuted two minutes faster than ritz)
2. he never bashes the coach in indiana. he mentions that his mindset wasn't where it needed to be and he became satisfied with things that he shouldn't have been happy with. he mentions indiana but never says anything derogatory about the coach and, to me, really explains the situation with class.
people say that he should just man up and run. WHY??? why would anyone run a championship race if they weren't ready for it. it wasn't too long ago that he got bashed for running US 8K while out of shape. everyone claimed that he was wasting the money of the USATF. At the time he was in that period where he became happier with mediocre results and he was willing to lace it up. now he wants to focus on getting back to form and we rip him for not running the trials when in his mind he knows he can't run with the lead pack???
we can all have our opinions and fernando definitely has a different personality and i'm sure he's fine with people not liking him without ever meeting him, but take a step back and look at some of this stuff with an open mind.
cabada is more talented than most realize and if he can get some of the issues he's dealt with in the past resolved and get some stability in training and environment (something he developed with simmons) he'll be a threat in the marathon for sure. The guy does hold an AM and holds one of the fastest american marathon debuts with a 2:12!!!

I wish him all the best. He seems like an honest guy, and he certainly has a little flair.
This guy has a lot of Flair, he is definetly FABULOUS.
Ghost when are you going to realize that Fernando Cabada doesn't speak spanish

Moulton,
Stop with the spanish, Cabada doesnt speak it. Good for you that you do though, you're the man. You know the trials course wont be short right, no "pr" this time around!

If by "fabulous" you mean "uneducated" and by "flair" you mean "ridiculous", then yes, you are absolutely correct...
How many times has Cabada posted on this thread? Im guessing 8. What do you think? I can see a few names who are most likely him.
The people who dissed Cabada have discouraged him (Cabada) from posting here, and that is a pity, especially because his training videos on YouTube were well produced and a good insight into his running, routes and general lifestyle. We could see from the early videos when he runs on those trails in Virginia that he has a magnificent style and is well suited to the marathon.
Hopefully he will come back. The sport needs a balance, and Cabada, though confident in himself, has a lot we can learn from.

how could a cabada thread go for 4 pages with the word "knife" not being used at least once?
I honestly don't get what is so upsetting to everyone about this.
Cabada is doing exactly what people on this thread say they admire and showing pure drive to be his best and to race to win, not to be an also-ran. So what?
Four pages on this! The jealousy that fuels this must be incredible.

Is that a walk-in closet you're hiding in, Really?
Cabada thrives on a support system, and gets discouraged when people put him down. He needs friends and family and constant positive reinforcement. The people who diss him on this forum don't realize the damage they might be doing. And that is sad.
The man deserves credit for what he has done (AR in 25km and good debut marathon - 2:12).
He is honest in his assessments. Notice how he concedes that Abdi has been dominating him in training.
He is going back to the system that worked for him, when he ran 28:20 and 2:12, and if he doesn't get injured, I can only see him getting better.
When you compare a guy like Sell and Cabada, most people will recognize that Cabada has more intrinsic talent than Sell, but the question is whether Cabada will be able to withstand the kind of training that Sell does (high mileage at a good intensity). Not sure about that. I think Fernando is a different type of runner to Sell. Different training approaches. Cabada, I think, would break down doing Sell's mileage, so he needs to find the right balance. You don't necessarily need 140 weeks to succede in the marathon. Cabada would do better, I think with lower mileage in the 90-115 per week range, and cross training, similar to Meb.
Sell will do well in Championship type races, where he picks off people who started too fast, but I never see Brian going as fast as 2:07 in the marathon. I think his speed limitations would come into play there. I doubt he can go much faster than 28:30 for 10km. To be competitive on a world level, a time of 28:00 would be necessary. Cabada, I think, has more speed potential, and could go as fast as 27:50 for 10.000 track. That can help, with cruising speed in the marathon.
Cabada, up till now, has not been as successful in running well in tough conditions, but that could change.

God, I didn't know that Fernando was such a mental case. Constant positive reinforcement? Is he not even able to go to the bank without a group of cheerleaders urging him on? Running may not be the sport for him if the smallest thing gets him down.Real life contains both the good and the bad. When he posted the videos of himself online, did he expect only positive feedback? If there's even a chance that someone could post a "damaging" comment about him, why would he put himself out there?Fernando, here's a tip: if you don't like what's being said about you on the Internet, TURN OFF THE COMPUTER. Simple, easy, and will save you money on DSL and electricity.

He's the Elvis Presley of distance running.
