Webb goes for it but falls short and staggers in at 3:34. Legat gets second in 3:30.

Webb f***s up 3:36
if that is the real Jim Spivey, I'd like to know one thing;
why the low estimate for Webb? he has displayed the speed and strength of a sub-3:30 and is in the right field for it. Paris always has good pacing, always. I don't remember a Paris mile or 1500 where the pacing was terrible. Frankly, Webb's 2-mile was poor because I believe he was training straight through it, and it still wasn't that bad, 8:24, c'mon guys. He never got aggressive in that race at all, and if he had, he would have cracked 8:20.
From the factors before me, Webb's previous miles in both Indoor, Furman, Drake, New York, and Nat's, his 2 mile 'training run' and his 800m from earlier this week, on top of his huge abilities that have been displayed in 2003,04,05,and early 06, which he is at or very near in terms of endurance and exceeds greatly in speed, I see it as extremely unlikely he runs slower than 3:30.5, he most likely will break 3:30, and possibly put one down there. This is a break out race, when all of the factors come together for an amazing athlete.
Don't bet against him. Baala is great, but he's also older, slightly slower, and his endurance is no where near Webb's. Lagat is comparable, but has been outkicked twice by Webb and even in a fast race, would not have the reserve to hold off Webb. Komen is the only guy that can beat Webb. Komen is a 3:45 mile runner, that has not yet run 3:45. He displayed some rare strength in the wind and poor pacing in Eugene. He should have run 3:47 low if he had someone to key off of or was being pushed.
Fireworks are getting ready to fly.
ahh shit. Komen aint on the start list.
Why would he drop a race he could win and tons of cash?
bump my estimate back to 3:29 high for the winner, which could be Webb. 1 or 2 go sub 3:30.
maybe the GL is saving him for knocking off a likely jackpot winner in Baala, Webb, or Lagat. Who knows.
Komen could be injured.
Strange but quite possibly true.
nice call on 3:30.0 only off by .4

With his current form, his new patience to kick, I beleive he has a great chance to win. He has the guts to go out with the rabbits, and he isn't afraid to wait for the last 50 meters any more. I beleive he will be within .25 ofthe winner if not win the race. With that I beleive the race will be run in 3:30.4 so between there and 3:30.7 for Webb. It's gonna take a great race but he is starting to prove as of lately that he is that good.
i think we have a winner with the above post!
It was great to see alan win and run another pr! i was lucky enough to warm down with him and jon rankin after the malmo meeting which he also ran well- worth much more than 1:45.8. jon and myself both joked on the warm down that if the noise would be crazy if it came down to him and baala, and if he won then it would just go quite! i was screaming my head off at the lap top screen and the scene played out like we said!!
I think this really shows alan is the real deal, and yes he has bad runs like the rest of us. But he shows real guts and pick himself up and goes again! he's also a normal guy and after the malmo meet he chilled out with a few of us for a cold beer- which shows hes relaxed and this paying off big time now!
would love to see him win worlds,
cheers jt
www.jamesthie.comWell, I would say that this ends up being the best post my I Love Peeps that I can remember (too bad much of the competition for this award is rather on the poor/irrelevant (or is that just irreverent?) side).
Hey Feris! Webb just won the Gaz...what do you have to say about that, biotch?
By the way, how many Brits were in the 1500? Obviously your crew from the early 80's was amazing, but that was 25 years ago. YOU are the one that needs to GET OVER IT!
Wanker
oh, and Feris...he just knocked off Ovett's 1500m PR with many years in the tank to go...
